Two is also very sensitive, and is considered to be the strongest representation of intuition of all the numbers. The number also represents balance – perhaps today will be a well balanced day!

WordPress Vulnerability Report – May 18, 2022 – The list of plugins to worry about is nice and short this week, here are a few that I think are easily recognizable: Donations, QP Fundraising Donation and Crowdfunding Platform, LiveSync for WordPress, Five Minute Webshop.

There are also 2 WordPress Themes to be aware of: Discy, and Ask Me. Be sure to keep an eye on these and regularly update.

Hackers are exploiting WordPress tools to hawk scams – As of May 12, cybersecurity research has disclosed a massive campaign that's responsible for injecting malicious JavaScript code into compromised WordPress websites that redirects visitors to scam pages and other malicious websites to generate illegitimate traffic. The common issue shared: malicious JavaScript had been injected within their website's files and the database, including legitimate core WordPress files. The JavaScript is activated on every page load, allowing the attacker to redirect the website visitors to a destination of their choice.

Software Freedom Conservancy receives court ruling affirming GPL as both copyright license and contractual agreement – The Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC), a non-profit that provides infrastructure support for free and open source software projects, has received a favourable ruling in its ‘right to repair lawsuit against Vizio', an American TV manufacturer. The SFC stated that Vizio has ‘repeated failures to fulfill even the basic requirements of the General Public License (GPL)',

Although lots of rain is good the for fish, so that's something. I hope everyone is remembering to find time to get outside, and time to spend with friends and family! Personally, I've got a D & D game going with some friends and my oldest daughter every other week – total highlight of each month are those games! And of course, we all get rid of our phones and don't bother with the socials while we are playing, 'cause that helps with healthy brain meats.

WordPress Vulnerability Report – May 11, 2022 – There's a few to look at this week for ‘no known fix' – and a lot that are on the ‘patched' list as well!

A few from the No Known Fix List you might recognize: Amazon Link, IMDB info box, Quotes llama, BannerMan, Easy FAQ with Expanding Text. Be sure to check this list against your site!

WPSiteSync shuts down, commercial extensions now available on GitHub – WPSiteSync is a content syncing plugin from DesktopServer, and they have now discontinued support for its free, core plugin and commercial extensions. This allows users to sync specific content like posts and pages, without having to migrate the entire database. It's been 9 months since the last update, and more than a year since the last release. For those who use this plugin, I would suggest looking for a good replacement.

WordPress community attributes declining market share to performance issues, increased complexity, and the lagging full-site editing project – I kind of agree with this. WordPress does seem like it's getting more complex, and the old hands are basically having to start at the beginning again to learn the new full site editing tools in a whole new way. There is a lot of talk about this in the WordPress community in places across the various platforms. I think that is a good thing – perhaps there will be no more removal of choices…

Here on the Wet Coast, we have rain… again… though it IS getting warmer! We can open our windows and leave them open for longer than half an hour now! Tis very exciting. Remember to stay away from the socials, get some sunshine if it's showing its face in your area, maybe go out and play some Frisbee or something! Human interaction and exercise are a great pairing for peace within the brain meats!

WordPress Vulnerability Report – May 4, 2022 (May the 4th be with you!) – There are a few plugins to think about this week, the ones I recognize most easily are: WP Subscribe, WP Invoice, Vertical scroll recent post, Turn off all comments, Wp Contacts manager, Domain Replace, and Hermit. Actually I don't think I do recognize Hermit – though I like the name. Now I want to go and check it out – I'll wait to see if it gets fixed though.

Remember to check the list of fixes for this week as well, see if any plugins you have deactivated are on the list, and be sure to update!

James Kemp acquires ReplyBox – ReplyBox is a privacy-focused comment system originally launched in 2018. It seems they were having some issues getting a strong foothold in the WordPress ecosystem, so Kemp offered to buy it. If any of our listeners currently use this, it doesn't seem like they are planning on changing the name, though Kemp is currently working on a few upgrades to release that include a lot of requests from users. If I hear about a name change or anything, I will let you know!

SpinupWP launches CLI Tool and External Database Support – SpinupWP is a cloud-based WordPress server control panel from Delicious Brain – who decided to celebrate their 4th birthday by launching one of the most frequently requested features: a command-line interface to manage servers and sites from the terminal! They have also released PHP SDK, offering you multiple options to manage your sites and servers! Totally awesome! This article goes through an interview with Brad Touesnard, founder and CEO of Delicious Brains, and they talk about the new features in depth – also where they got the idea for SpinupWP!

WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 27, 2022 – This weeks plugins to look at are a few, the more popular ones being: Social Stickers, Advanced Uploader, Custom Tiny MCW Shortcode Button, th23 Social, WPC Smart Wishlist for WooCommerce.

There is also one theme that has since been patched, though be sure to update shortly! Fusion Builder.

MemberPress Plugin is locking users out after support license expires – MemberPress is a popular membership plugin for WordPress, though they have started locking users out of the plugins admin if they do not renew their subscriptions. WordPress subreddit lit up this last week with reports about it. This plugin does not have a free version that you can ‘scale down' to, and although the membership only costs $179 per year for one site, the fact that it now locks you out is kind of an issue for a lot of people, as cutting off access to the plugin's admin screens leaves users without the ability to manage the membership functions of their sites if their subscriptions lapse – so they can't get refunds, add new members, manage memberships, site activations, or do any other actions one can only do through the admin screen.

A pared back web font API may land in WordPress 6.0 … Or not… – The web font API was originally set to come in with WordPress 5.9, then it was shunted down to 6.0, and it is starting to look like it is going to be shunted yet again. Another feature that appears to have been shunted down the line, is ‘Post Author Name Block'. The Beta 1 is out, so you can go and play around with it to see for yourself how the features are doing.

We had a pretty decent one, though one of my daughters came down with a stomach bug – it is the time of year when people who are sensitive to weather changes will be feeling a bit under the weather; this goes for people with allergies as well. Be sure to stock up on peppermint and chamomile teas! Also if you throw some Bay Leaves into the tea as well it will add loads of vitamin C!

Tea's are great, and having tea with kids and family can be a great way to wind down, or get ready for the day! Spending a little time every day with your family can go a long way. Remember, ditch the media while spending time with family and/or friends! Helps the brain meats!

WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 20, 2022 – There are a LOT of fixes this week! Be sure to check these out, especially if you use plugins from Cool Plugins, they seem to have fixed a lot of bugs this past week.

Plugins to worry about this week are not so many; WP Maintenance, WP Social Buttons, Admin Menu Editor, Product Filter For WooCommerce Product, WP Video Gallery – these are most of them, there are a few more, be sure to check these out!

DuckDuckGo and Brave move to Bypass Google AMP pages by default – On April 19th, both DuckDuckGo and Brave browsers announced that they will be bypassing Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) in favor of serving publishers' content on the original URL. This is called ‘De-AMP' by Brave; how this works is: ‘where it's not possible to rewrite the URLS, the browser will watch as pages are fetched and redirect users, while preventing AMP code from being loaded and executed.' Currently available in the Beta and Nightly versions.

WooCommerce plans to bring full-site editing support to single product templates – WooCommerce still has the gap in their full-site editing support where it is not yet possible to use the full-site editing to customize every aspect of the store; but they are moving to close that gap with the latest features! This is still in its early stages, though you can try everything out in the block themes!

Critical Vulnerability Fixed in Elementor Plugin Version 3.6.3 – The most recently released version of Elementor has a fix to a vulnerability that is allowing any authenticated user, regardless of their authorization, to change the site title, site logo, change the theme to Elementor's theme, and worst of all, upload arbitrary files to the site. This article goes through explaining how this vulnerability exists, how it works, and about the patch. They note a few times that they are still gathering information about this vulnerability.

WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 13, 2022 – There are a lot of plugins with issues to look at this week; most of the plugins on the list are Wbcom Designs Plugins – BuddyPress – Activity Social Share, Create Group Type, Ads, Search… It appears that Wbcom Designs Plugins has been working hard to fix some vulnerabilities. Be aware if you use Wbcom Designs Plugins – BuddyPress; some of the plugins are in the ‘fixed' list above, so be sure if you use these guys to check back every day to see what has been fixed and what has not – but do also keep an eye out for any other plugins you may be using.

WordPress performance team puts controversial WebP by Default Proposal on hold after critical feedback – The new feature WebP images on upload by default for new JPEG uploads has created some serious technical concerns in the WordPress Community.

Here on the Wet Coast we have had a string of beautifully rainy days, a tad bit of wind trying to knock out our power – just the right kind of weather for our little island! That's not to say that we haven't had some really nice days over the past week though. We got a decent amount of sun for a few days in a row, though the wind was a little chilly.

Spring Storms are a great time to get yourself started on that Spring Cleaning – after all, you don't want to head out into that – and if the power goes out you have no excuse to stop! ‘Cause that's what everyone wants to do really… right?

WordPress Vulnerability Report – April 6, 2022 – There is quite the list today, so I am only going to name off the ones most easily recognizable. Be sure to give this a list a look over, and to keep an eye out for updates for these plugins that are currently set as ‘no known fix'.

ULeak Security & Monitoring, Nimble Page Builder, Clipr, Master Elements, Users Ultra, Testimonial Slider. There are a lot more, keep an eye out and remember to update!

WordPress.com increases Traffic and Storage Limits on new plans after overwhelmingly negative feedback on initial rollout – WordPress.com rolled out a pricing change on April 1, though they did not officially announce it until yesterday (April 5). The free plan's back storage and traffic limits were severely pared back, alarming and frustrating a lot of users who for years have considered WordPress.com their ‘go-to' platform for simple blogging. On April 1, the change to the plans was a switch from 5 options to 2, Free and Pro. In the Free plan, they initially capped traffic at 10k visits, 100k visits on Pro, and limited free users to 500MB of storage. This caused an uproar and a flooding in of negative feedback.

The change initiated yesterday has removed the traffic cap entirely from both Free and Pro, and have raised the free storage on the Free plan to 1GB.

WP Migrate DB has rebranded to WP Migrate – A very good thing to know if you are looking for this plugin, or if you use this plugin and wind up wondering what happened to the name.

This is #15 of 52 episodes for 2022! So many 5's today! 5 is an interesting number in numerology – 5 is a master of change, able to go with the flow and adapt itself to thrive in different environments and social situations. People with the life-path number 5 tend to have a hard time settling down or sticking to routine, as people with 5 tend to crave new, fresh experiences – once something feels like routine these people tend to move on.

On another note – happy early April Fools! I think we should really just call it Loki Day – generally my youngest sets up about 20 different little harmless pranks at this time of year, so I can't help but wonder what she will do this year! I hope everyone has a lot of fun this year, and that you are able to get outside and enjoy the early Spring weather!

WordPress Vulnerability Report – March 30, 2022 – Only 7 to worry about this week – don't forget to go through this list each week to see if a plugin you have deactivated in the past has been patched and is good to go now!

EXMAGE, Good & Bad Comments, Thank me Later, Page Security & Membership, Autolinks, Amministrazione Aperta, Ad Injection. If you have these in your site, deactivate and keep an eye out for updates!

Performance Team proposes enabling WebP by default in WordPress 6.0 – If this proposal is approved, version 6.0 will generate WebP images by default for new JPEG uploads and will use WebP images by default for website content. I could see this being very useful, as WordPress would auto convert JPEG uploads to the WebP in the background, and use them on your website.

Text Selection across multiple blocks is coming to WordPress – Ella van Durpe merged a feature into Gutenberg plugin, allowing users to select and modify text across multiple rich text blocks. This should land in 13.0 of the plugin, and WordPress 6.0 in May. I'll bet this will make life easier across the board for Gutenberg users!

WordCamp Asia 2023 tentatively set for February 17-19 in Bangkok, Thailand – Great news! WordCamp Asia is tentatively back on schedule for in-person WordPress events with these new dates – February 17-19, 2023. Read on to find out more!

WordPress Community Team Reconsiders Guidelines for In-Person Regional WordCamps – Community Team Representative Hari Shanker is looking for feedback on the discussion about in-person regional events before April 4, 2022. The organizers are discussing relaxing a number of guidelines, including some for regional online WordCamps in order to help keep communities connected. If you are interested, follow the link above and join in on the conversation!

Block accidental edits of shared content with the Lock Reusable Blocks Plugin – WP Tavern does a great job going through this new plugin created; it allows users to group one or more blocks in the post editor, save them, and reuse anywhere blocks are supported. Very neat, I can see how this will be very useful in groups working on the same thing!

The Archeo WordPress Theme blends Mayan History with Magazine-Style Block Patterns – I think this is so cool! I personally love history, and I love seeing it come to life like this!! Worth checking out if you were ever into the history magazines growing up.

Amber's Rant:

This is #13 of 52 episodes for 2022! So many people think of 13 as an unlucky number, though honestly I have always loved this number! 13 has been skipped in buildings and avoided on ships for many years, though it seems to be happening less these days. Friday the 13th has a bad wrap, though if you look deeper into our known history, Friday was Freya's day, and 13 was her number, so Friday the 13th once upon a time was actually a day especially for love and family, as Freya was the goddess of those things.

Also, 13 = 4 in numerology, which is truly my absolute favourite number. I wonder how many people stop and think about their favourite numbers – ever wonder why people like some numbers and not others?

Perhaps a good topic of conversation to bring up next time you are hanging out with family and friends – of course with the media's offline for a while! Enjoy your spring breaks coming up everyone with kids who are kids!
