Today's reading from Mark chapter 5 takes us through several more amazing encounters that Jesus has. He first encounters "Legion," the name of the many spirits that were inflicting the man in the Gerasenes. He tells them to go possess a herd of pigs! He brings back to life the daughter of a synagogue ruler, and even heals a woman with a blood disease by her own action just touching his garment in faith... amazing!

In very Mark style, we see a rapid-fire accounting of Many of Jesus' teachings. He heals on the Sabbath, draws massive crowds, heals so many people they were surrounding him, and even the unclean spirits were proclaiming Him. Mark later tells us the names of his initial 12 Apostles, teaches many parables, and calms the sea and wind.

Today we finish the Gospel of Matthew and begin the Gospel of Mark. Matthew seems to end rather abruptly as he doesn't spend as much time detailing all the events after Jesus' resurrection. Mark also seems to move rapidly with his focus being much more on the miracles and actions of Jesus.

Today's reading from Matthew chapter 26 is a tough one. In this section, Jesus makes His final preparations for him to be arrested. He has Passover with his disciples where he establishes the Lord's Supper. He also deals with the reality of what is about to happen to Him. He goes apart and asks his closest friends to watch and pray with Him. They couldn't stay awake though... One of His own, betrays him, He's arrested and ALL of the disciples fled. Peter gets enough courage to follow at a far distance, but when confronted, denies even knowing Jesus, 3 times.

When is the last time you've been betrayed or let down by a friend, or someone you love. The reality is that Humans are imperfect and selfish, and make mistakes. Luckily Jesus came and is offering us His Grace. Without it, we would be lost...
