Today's reading covers chapters 14 and 15 of Matthew. The beginning of 14 covers the tragic demise of John the Baptist by the hand of Herod. The way Jesus responds is touching as he tries to find some alone time to pray. But the peoples needs out-weigh his need to grieve and he has compassion on them.

In chapter 10 of the book of Matthew, we are privileged to hear more of the teachings of Jesus. Some of the most popular/famous of his Parables are given to us here. The Parable of the Sower, the Parable of the Weeds, The Mustard Seed and the Leaven, Hidden Treasure, Pearl of Great Value etc.

In these, Jesus is expanding our understanding about the Kingdom of Heaven. It IS worth pursuing!!

Todays reading is from Matthew chapter 11. Jesus interacts with disciples of John the Baptist who are wanting confirmation that Jesus is The Christ. He then teaches the crowd around him that John is the prophesied Elijah and the greatest person born of woman in history. In contrast to that though, he states that the one that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John. This continues the contrast Jesus is teaching us about earthly vs heavenly.

Jesus transitions into a stinging rebuke of several cities who have not responded to his miracles and teachings.

Finally Jesus offers up an invitation to everyone. In order to know the Father, you have to know the Son. And to know the Son, you've got to come to him. Jesus says: "come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

In today's reading of Matthew chapter 10, we read where Jesus sends his 12 disciples out into the world. There are SO many lessons for us to learn here. Not only was the experience they would receive going to give them growth, but the instructions he gave them also required an abundance of faith.

In today's reading from Matthew chapters 8 and 9 we see Jesus having compassion on many people. He heals a man with leprosy, heals the servant of the Centurion (who displayed MIGHTY faith), he healed the mother-in-law of Peter and then people from all over were brought to him.

He teaches about the reality of following him, that it would not be easy but the reward was worth it! He showed his authority and power of nature by calming the storm and sea. He even brought a girl back to life! Jesus is awesome and He demonstrates his Heavenly Authority throughout these chapters.

Jesus continues to instruct us and provide us with heavenly wisdom. We learn about humility and doing things publicly to be seen and praised by men, we learn that we're expected to give to the needy, but not to be praised of by men (ie; recording everything on social media...). We learn to pray, but do it privately. Jesus also reminds us that focusing on this world and wealth is fruitless. Instead, lay up our treasures in Heaven which is eternal. He also teaches us to put our faith and trust in God and not to worry or be anxious about this life or all of our needs.

In Chapter 7 Jesus continues to teach us. He tells us that we need to be people who consider our own flaws and works to be better. When we are spiritually healthy, then we are able to help our brothers & sisters. We also have here the famous "golden rule" to treat others like we want to be treated. Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place if everyone just did this one thing?

Daily Bible Reading Day 3: Matthew chapter 5, the sermon on the mount. Jesus goes up on top of a local mountain and is followed by a huge crowd. He begins to speak to them with a kind of authority that they had not ever heard. He begins with what has been called "The Beatitudes" which begin with "Blessed are the...".
