Curator Elise Edmunds made a welcome return to Arts Wednesday on 14 April 2021 to talk about the new display at the Amaze Gallery at the State Library of NSW. Highlights include Fake truths: An historical novel – a collection of paintings and stories in response to items in the Library’s collection – by artist Hadyn Wilson (Artist in Residence, 2020); portraits of prominent women by Sydney artist Peter Kingston; illustrated logbooks of the voyage of the Kathleen Gillett (1947–48) by Jack Earl, one of the founders of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race; and a selection of rare books by Italian poet, writer and philosopher Dante Alighieri.

Manuela Darling-Gansser is a food blogger, travel writer and author of several cook books. Her latest is called Pardiz, the Persian word fro paradise and paradise is how Manuela remembers the first 9 years of her life growing up in Teheran. This book is, yes, a cook book, but so much more. Manuela shares memories of her childhood and her recipes follow places or eating styles or places and recent visits to modern day Iran are documented in the book with the most magnificent photographs. Manuela herself is both a knowledgeable and charming guest.

Ed Lippmann joins Sylvia for a new series of Sydney By Design for 2020 and the focus will be on events of the last year. We commence on Arts Wednesday 25 November with Part 1 on building codes. Following disasters in buildings like Opal Towers, a  Building Commissioner has been appointed. How will this impact on shoddy building practices.

In Chapter 5, entitled Urban Expansion and Architecture, Ed asks what next? He advocates developing Sydney as a polycentric city to increase liveability for citizens as the city expands.
