Words, Work, and Winifred

Dominic “Nerd” McDonald also known as Nerd the Poet (@nerdthepoet), is a young Black Entrepreneur and Spoken Word artist from various cities in Los Angeles, California now living in the DC Metro area. He has put his views on growing up in the inner city between two households, Hip Hop music, being a social outcast, college experiences, and more on paper and created everything from screen plays to magazine articles. In January, 2022 he founded Nerd the Poet Productions, a Poetic Event & Consulting company that curates art-share opportunities and recreational entertainment through spoken word.

His passion comes from serving the community, especially through the arts. He is the 2022 winner of the Day 8 Publishing's "DC Poet Project". And currently he is the 2023 DMV Renaissance Awards Best Male Poet. By writing from his heart and what he sees and hears, he hopes to be a “change agent” to the unheard. He plans to travel spreading his creativity and influence to those who may receive his messages as well as manage and mentor others who decide to walk the same path.

The passing of OJ Simpson and the reaction on the internet has me frustrated. I'm realizing how much people put content creation above being a human in the moment.

Took a few days off of the grid. No algorithms, no chats, and I even cut back on other communication with the world. Just me. Here's what I learned!

Talking about the lack of research and realism in film today. Don't rush the art!

Quick talk about my thoughts removing black history from schools.

What does legacy mean to you? An quick honest chat about the journey of life.

No spoilers. Just a conversation about the concept of the film and what it is to be a black writer.

I have made several investments though throughout my writing journey. This list gets straight to the things that a writer would need to achieve success!

I got a chance to chat with Dr. Sharon Buchbinder! Our paths crossed when I enrolled at a four university to pursue my bachelors degree in healthcare management many years ago. Although undergrad is somewhat of a blur, I remember the day she called me into her office to encourage me to be a creative writer!

In this podcast episode we discuss Dr. Buchbinder's journey juggling a full-time job and being a successful writer, the development of her career, writing tips, workforce stories, and so much more. I also got a chance to tell her a little bit about my toxic internship.

Sharon Buchbinder has been writing fiction since middle school and has the rejection slips to prove it. An RN, she provided health care delivery, became a researcher, association executive, obtained a PhD in Public Health, and is an administrator in higher education. She is the author of the Hotel LaBelle Series, the Jinni Hunter Series, and the Obsession Series. When not attempting to make students and colleagues laugh or writing, she can be found walking her pugs, Agent Frank and Igor Valentino, waiting on her Maine Coon cat, Buster Brown, or breaking bread and laughing with family and friends.
