On 22 May 2025, as part of Clerkenwell Design Week, I participated in a panel discussion on neurodiversity in the workplace.
Titled: Neurodiversity at Work: Designing for all
When I agreed to join the panel, my selfish goal was to learn more about a subject I had previously overlooked.
Why?
At a distance, I felt as though ‘Neurodiversity’ was just another trending term that corporates would use to ‘tick the box’.
Just like ‘sustainability’ in design. We throw around these terms, which leads to exhaustion and then confusion.
After the panel conversation, I realised that my real frustration is with the ‘marketing’ engines that rev up and start talking about the subject with a megaphone.
Beneath the label, real issues exist for real people.
My experience was humbling.
I was surrounded by people who were the ‘real people’, who dealt with issues daily.
It led me to contemplate.
This verse is the result of that contemplation.
A work in progress.
