    George Downey grew up in a small town near Boston, Massachusetts. He had an interest in the military which led him to West Point. While there he acquired his EMS certification. He had an opportunity to become an officer but didn’t feel comfortable commanding soldiers in battle. He dropped out of the Academy and got a job on a cruise ship. During one of the excursions, he encountered an EMS team. As they departed the ship he jokingly asked if they had an opening. They did so he joined the team. After serving in a variety of jobs in locations from Massachusetts to California, he realized he had ADHD. Reflecting on his behavior pattern, he discovered what he enjoyed most: learning new things and teaching it to others. With this knowledge, he turned what others might consider a liability into a strength. Anyone who has or knows someone who has ADHD will benefit from this episode.

    Dr. Nen Huang, Holistic Coach and Aromatherapy Practitioner, is a lifelong learner because she is curious. Her journey started in China where she earned a degree in nursing. Interested in other cultures, she moved to Saudi Arabia where she worked in a medical facility for a few years.   • Healing Power of Hypnosis
    Joann Peterson had abusive parents and then married an abusive husband. As a result of those relationships, she was filled with self-doubt and suffered bouts of depression. Raising three children as a single parent wasn’t easy, but she wanted to give them the love and support she did not get. After they grew up and moved away, depression found her again. She felt the need to change careers from child-care to healthcare. While caring for others lifted her spirits, she still had a lot of down days.     I joined our club shortly after becoming a certified Life Coach. Although I had plenty of public speaking opportunities in my previous role as a university administrator, I wanted to enhance my skills delivering different types of speeches. Joining Toastmasters is helping me become more consistent, because I get the opportunity to improve my public speaking ability by giving a speech every four to six weeks. Toastmasters is about communication: listening and speaking; skills great leaders possess. I attribute a good portion of my success to my previous and current Toastmaster experiences.     Rick Record is a multi-talented industrious individual. He started out operating his own business, then worked for the government, After retiring he developed a social service organization to help directionless young men find their way into productive work and create meaningful lives.
