This week's guest on the McKay Interview is Sir Peter Marshall, a distinguished British diplomat whose experience dates back to 1949.

Once serving in the RAF in World War II and graduating from Cambridge in 1949, he is now regarded as a prominent member of the UK Diplomatic Service, being appointed as Chairman of the Joint Commonwealth Societies Council 1993-2003.

He is the author of Positive Diplomacy, a text accruing much respect in the field and continuing his reputation as a significant figure in analysing UK politics.

This week, Michael McKay and Sir Peter Marshall explore what effects the results of Brexit will have on our country whilst also comparing the political situation, actions and behaviours to immediately after the War.

The Seventh round of Syria talks closed on Friday at around midnight. UN Syria Envoy Staffan de Mistura was in optimistic mood and announced another round of talks in early September, where there are hopes for more substantive talks on all issues on the table. Staffan de Mistura talked about the four issues, known as "baskets"; governance, elections, a constitution and fighting terrorism.

In the coming week, we can expect an IOM dialogue on migration with Member States and civil society. The overall aim is to agree on a Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration (GCM) in 2018.

IOM's Olivia Headon explains the focus of the upcoming meeting:

"Once you've taken your journey, regardless of what has happened... if the community is not ready to embrace you, the journey might have been for almost for nothing....some governments and communities think that the journey is the end of the story but it really isn't."

This week, Michael McKay talks to Professor Henry Markram who is the Founder of both the Blue Brain Project and Human Brain Project.

His impressive academic record is extensive:

• He gained his PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

• Was a Fulbright Scholar at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA.

• As a Minerva Fellow he then went to the famous Max Planck Institute, Heidelberg where he made important discoveries.

• He went on to become assistant professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he started systematically dissecting out the neocortical column and developed the so-called theory of liquid state machine, or high entropy computing.

• In 2002, he moved to EPFL as full professor and founder/director of the Brain Mind Institute and Director of the Center for Neuroscience and Technology.

• In 2005 he started the Blue Brain Project, a Swiss funded project.

• In 2007 he started Frontiers, today one of the largest publishers of open science, with Kamila his wife.

• And in 2013 he led a consortium of 500 scientists to win a billion Euro grant from the European Commission to start the Human Brain Project.
