This championship involves a lot of the world’s best male and female skiers in downhill (giant, slalom), as well as in cross-country and biathlon.

Held in France every 5 years, this is the first time that Morzine is hosting the event. It’s an opportunity to see racers from Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and France in Morzine, who’ve just competed in the World Championships in St Moritz.

The big names will be there for France: the Pinturaults, Worley-Fanara - Muffat Jeandet – Barioz - Baud Mugnier for France; for Germany, Dopfer – Neureuther; for Italy, Gross or Moelgg; for Austria, Brem or Noesig. They’ll all be there to fly the flag for their country.

In the Nordic disciplines, the French team (Fourcade, Magnificat and Duvillard) are tipped to win. The downhill disciplines (Giant and Slalom) will be on Pléney, next to the cable cars. The cross-country and biathlon events are planned for the Vallée de la Manche.

Through this event, Morzine intends to renew its links with top-flight international ski competition.

Phil Palmer has worked with Iggy Pop, Robbie Williams, George Michael, Tina Turner and Bob Dylan, to name just a few.

In the early 90s - he was in Dire Straits and now he’s quite literally got the band back together - well some of them anyway - for the DIRE STRAITS LEGACY TOUR.

Katt Cullen called Phil, at his home in Italy, and asked him if this whole idea was just something that came up over a beer with the Dire Straits guys.

It turns out that no, it wasn't quite like that.
