World Wrestling Resource Podcast

Michigan alum Domenic Abounader is one of several "international" wrestlers working out of the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club in Ann Arbor. A Lebanese dual citizen since birth, Abounader has started his international wrestling career representing the nation where his family grew up.

Host Jason Bryant sits down with Abounader in Xi'an, China prior to the 2019 Asian Wrestling Championships to talk about the process to represent Lebanon and what it means to him. Is it the easy way? What's he trying to accomplish?

He also talks about the CKWC coach, legendary wrestling champion Sergei Beloglazov.

LeRoy Gardner and Robert "Hollywood" Hemingway are two of the handful of African-American head coaches in college wrestling. On Episode 68 of the World Wrestling Resource Podcast, the pair talk about the differences and similarities in exposing the sport to wrestlers of all backgrounds, as well as explaining how wrestlers of color can find opportunities to compete beyond the Division I level.

Where can the opportunity grow? Is it with the HBCU's, of which Allen is the only four-year HBCU in the country with wrestling. What resources can be put forth to increase the visibility of wrestling across every gender, race, color and creed? It's a level-headed discussion about things around the world and hurdles all types of coaches face, regardless of their racial or socio-economic makeup.

While in Trnava, Slovakia for the 2018 Junior World Championships, we got a chance to talk with Pedro Silva, the President of the Wrestling Federation of Portugal. Silva's been around the sport for decades in a number of roles and he'll talk about that background and the culture of wrestling in Portugal.

Silva is also running for a position on the UWW Bureau and he explains what he would like to bring to that panel as well as his insights on what the last five years have meant for international wrestling.

Rotundo has covered a number of World Championships and the 2016 Olympic Games and his shots have graced the covers of nearly every major wrestling magazine and website over the past decade. Rotundo talks about the feel of international wrestling, covering events abroad, how he got into photography and what it was like to land a coveted Olympic credential.

One of the larger stories that came out of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia was the one of Kevin Wallen. The president of the Jamaica Wrestling Federation, Wallen competed at 86kg in freestyle and won his opening match 11-10 over a wrestler from the Bahamas. At 48 years old.
