Though perhaps not yet a melting pot to match the likes of Paris, London or New York, it is now a place where other languages, not least English is spoken in abundance. But how well does that go down?

Many refugees have survived harrowing experiences. While not everyone is traumatized, some need psychological help when they get to safety in Europe and elsewhere. But in Germany, Arabic-speaking psychologists and social workers are still scarce. A new project is trying to change that - by training Arab-speaking refugees from the Middle East as counselors.

Elif Shafak is one of Turkey's most renowned novelists who lives both in London and Istanbul. She's already won several awards for her books and is also a regular contributor to The Guardian, The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Our correspondent Nikolia Apostolou caught up with Mrs Shafak in London to get her take on the dangers of divisive populism, faith, and how art can save the day.
