  • Rachel Barrentine - Are you praying up or down?

This week we're talking prayer! I sat down with worship leader, songwriter and author Rachel Barrentine to get her perspective on the subject. She did not disappoint! Rachel shared about listening to the Lord, how she goes about hearing His voice, praying with authority and more!

Here are a few of my favorite thoughts from today's show:

    1. Prayer is more than just a way to get the band on and off the stage.

    2. Prayer allows us to participate int he activity of Heaven.
    3. Want to hear God's voice? Read the Bible. He's already done a lot of talking.

How do I get my church to sing? That’s such a common question among worship leaders. So on today's show, I'm sharing 5 practical tips for engaging your church in singing. It's easier than you may think!

  • 5 Reasons Your Rehearsals Suck (and how to fix them)

Today on the podcast I’m talking rehearsals. Specifically, why your rehearsals SUCK and how to fix them. If I’m honest, I used to hate rehearsals. If I’m even more honest, it was my own fault. I wasn’t making them a worthwhile event for myself or my team. And you know what? My Sunday services were suffering because of it.  I needed to make a change, so I pinpointed 5 things I needed to work on. It took some time, but my rehearsals eventually turned around!

If you’ve ever felt like your team doesn’t want to be at rehearsal, or if YOU don’t want to be there, this episode is for you!

  • Steph Andrews - Idolatry, the Stage and the Secret Place

Let’s talk about idolatry. That sounds fun, right?! Maybe not. But it’s a necessary piece of a conversation about worship. Especially for worship leaders. There are many things that can distract us from what’s most important.

If we’re not careful, we may begin worshiping our own leadership, the stage or the applause of man rather than worshiping God. We should search our hearts often.  That’s what I discussed this week with worship leader, songwriter and author Steph Andrews.

Here are a few of my favorite thoughts from this conversation:

    1. We need to become more and more like Jesus so the earth becomes more and more like Heaven.

    2. The more I’m in a place where I’m seen, the more I need to be in a place of solitude.
    3. Notice who people are becoming, not just what they’re doing.

  • Temitope - The Importance of Diversity in Ministry

This week I sat down with songwriter and worship leader Temitope to discuss the importance of diversity in ministry and how it reflects the heart of God. We spoke in regards to race, music, creative elements and more. It was a great conversation. You don't want to miss it!

Here are a few of my favorite thoughts from this episode:

    1. We're supposed to be equipping the saints, instead we've been entertaining them.
  • What does it meant to follow Jesus, not just hear about Him?
  • The love of God was not meant to stay with me, it's meant to be passed to my neighbor.

  • Stepping Out in Faith, Finding Your Why & the Importance of Expectation

Why do you lead worship? I think that's an important question for leaders to consider. As you consider that also ask, Why is it important? Who is it for? and How can I stay focused on that?

Those are the questions I asked this week's podcast guest, Hollis Moore. Hollis shared his why, how he invites his congregation into that, the importance of expectation and so much more! Here are a few of my favorite thoughts from this episode:
    1. Your floor as a worship leader is usually your congregation's ceiling.
    2. Practice being in the presence of God.
    3. Stop seeking the spectacular and start seeking the supernatural.
