 Hey check this out — we are covering a Spawn book (quite possibly) for the first time! It has been a big year of first for us over here at WCE. We’re jumping in here with Spawn being abducted and dissected by Curse, a tech savvy religious zealot. We also have Cy-Gor the cybernetic gorilla running rampant somewhere in upstate New York.

Highlights include:

Also, Jen and Shawn pay tribute to the recently passed Andy Williams, guitarist of EVERY TIME I DIE and “The Butcher” in AEW. Andy was a one of kind talent and an incredible soul. We will miss him immensely. Rest in Power Andy.

Elseworlds 80-Page Giant #1 (1999)

Something slightly different this week as we chat about a specific story from an Elseworlds anthology called “Rockumentary.” This is a silly take on BEHIND THE MUSIC with Lex Luthor as a bigger-than-life record company executive. It’s a fun trip so let’s check it out!

Green Lantern [vol 2] #182 (1984)

LANTERNS, an honest-to-goodness live action TV show with Green Lanterns in it, is coming our way so let’s see what the Emerald Knight was up to back in the mid-80s. Turns out quite a bit as Hal Jordan bails on the gig and the formidable John Stewart is next in line. Also, Major Disaster is walking the streets and Eclipso is rightfully lurking in the shadows!

Highlights include:

• Hal pours one out for Abin Sur
• Wonder Woman no-sells a political assassination
• Leather wristbands in the 80s
• Magenta boots
• The Guardians on Oa are kind of useless
• Hal’s STEEEEEEL TRAP…..RUSTED!

Also, Shawn finally gets around to watching PULP FICTION and is sort of non-plussed by Quentin Tarantino overall.

Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #14 (1978)

Spider-Man, Flash Thompson and new friend Razorback are on a race against time to get to Yonkers to stop an evil cult from going nationwide. As it turned out, we didn’t allot for covering the conclusion to this arc but I can assure that it all works out for Spider-Man. Nonetheless, this book does have a surprise reveal and Spider-Man punching Razorback in the face repeatedly.

Highlights include:

• Spider-Man carries Flash Thompson like a mannequin
• Comedian Kyle Kinane joins the Legion of Light
• Jonathan Frakes is here too!
• All reporters look the same
• The many aliases of Man-Beast
• A possible ending for AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY!

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has a new movie coming out this week so let’s see what he was up to in the late-70s! Somehow it involves cults, big rig trucks and a large man dressed as a pig.
