“Art Spiegelman: Disaster is My Muse!” is a documentary feature length film that explores the life and career of a cartoonist, the story of his parents’ survival of the Holocaust and his own struggle to come to terms with his legacy.

All eyes were on Wisconsin last night for the first major contest since President Trump returned to the White House. And voters overwhelmingly elected liberal candidate Susan Crawford to the state Supreme Court.

Trump's reign aims for "a strategic effort of shock and awe" and is meant to instill fear, confusion, and inaction, according to Bridget Moix, Secretary General of the Friends Committee on National Legislation. In her recent article "A Springtime for Moral Courage", she challenges everyone, and especially Congress, to stand firm against the immoral actions of Trump's actions to shift our money from supporting the poor to supporting the rich. Moix discusses their "Faithful Witness Wednesdays" vigils, which provide opportunities for people of faith to speak out and stand up while too many remain silent.

Are your egg prices going through the roof? Are you listening to mainstream media blaming it on bird flu? Then you need to read Amanda Starbuck and her co-author's recent article "Egg Prices: It’s Not Just Bird Flu. It’s Corporate Greed" where their investigation determined that the primary cause for "egg-flation" isn't disease, but the big egg producers, such as Cal-Maine Foods, with the top ten producers cornering 50% of the market raising prices to line their pockets, and those of their shareholders, with your money. In a two year period, before the latest bird flu, their prices almost tripled. And they can give their big distributers, like Walmart, discounts while charging other buyers more to make up for what they lose in deals with Walmart.

This week host Ted Hyngstrom speaks to Staff Writer Jake Piper about his story “Heather Mac Donald blasts DEI, says it works to ‘cover up the racial skill gap’ during UW-Madison visit” in a discussion of Heather MacDonald’s comments on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on college campuses.

Doctor Anatoly Detwyler, an assistant professor of modern Chinese literature and cultural history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was in the WORT studio to talk about China with Amitabh Pal.

Professor Detwyler has also taught China-related courses in a number of departments including history and political science at the UW-Madison and other universities and has spent time in both China and Taiwan. He’s also collaborated on several books on Chinese literature and culture and has a third book coming out later this year.

Professor Detwyler’s lucid responses to complicated questions allowed us a glimpse into Chinese culture, economics, politics and life. He encouraged us to pursue social and cultural exchanges to learn more about how Chinese people are not the Chinese government, just as we are not our own government. We may even make friends! At least we can open ourselves to understanding life from other viewpoints.

He also gave us a starting place by naming Keyu Jin’s book, The New China Playbook Beyond Socialism and Capitalism http://www.keyujin.com/ and a recommendation to read China-watcher Bill Bishop’s newsletter, "Sinocism."
