YOU are THE ONLY ONE who has your specific purpose. You were uniquely designed and perfectly matched to your purpose. You are not a match for anyone else's purpose. So let's quit comparing ourselves and our purpose to others.
Unfortunately, our culture tells us that people who have wealth and fame are to be admired and made even revered. YIKES! If money is the measurement of success, then the heads of drug dealing and human trafficking cartels are the big winners and pastors, social workers and teachers are the big losers. If fame is the measurement, then people who do ridiculous, risky, or risqué things on social media to get 12 million views are the big winners. Does that make any sense to you? Of course not-!!
If your purpose doesn't pay well, it's not because your purpose isn't noble or worthy, it's because our culture doesn't recognize the significance and importance of it. Most of us don't have a purpose that generates big bucks and celebrity status. That's OK. If that's you, then rest in the knowledge that you weren't made for those things and you wouldn't be comfortable or peaceful living that kind of life.
Often the people we compare ourselves to are family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. We think they have it easier and that their lives are so much better than ours. It feels so unfair, especially when someone we care about looks down on our purpose because they think we're not living up to our potential or making use of our education, or for whatever other reason they pass judgment. The reality is that God didn't give them your purpose. They may never fully understand and support your purpose, but that's OK. We don't need to try to please anyone but God.
The REAL measurements of living our purpose are these five things:
- healthy relationships with good people
- peace
- joy
- financial provision
- wellness and contentedness
You'll know when you're really living your purpose, because you'll begin to have these things. And when you do, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. If we're going to compare anything, let's compare and measure our lives by these things.
