A little more than two weeks ago the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis led to street protests in almost every major city in the US and even overseas. It was a tipping point- it called into questions the idea of ‘systemic racism ‘ in our politics, our health care system and our policing.
Today on WPKN’s GM Report to the Listeners- Steve di Costanzo will be joined by Rev. James Morton, 1st VP of the NAACP (Bridgeport Chapter) who marched in Washington DC in 1963- Rev Lee’s late mother- Margaret E. Morton was the first black woman to serve in the Connecticut House of Reps as well as the Connecticut Senate. We will also be joined by a young black educator and activist, Takina Pollack Shafer from Bridgeport - who is also active in Bridgeport Generation Now.
With the theme of ‘Justice for George Floyd’ and our support of BLACK LIVES MATTER, we will re-air the Eulogy at George Floyd’s Memorial in Houston last week.
It was given by Rev Al Sharpton- it’s a moving and powerful talk.
