On April 16, 2019, in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale and Hamden Police Officers shot at 22 year-old Stephanie Washington and 21 year-old Paul Witherspoon III, an unarmed black couple singing love songs to each other in their car. Stephanie was sent to the hospital with injuries, and the incident made national news.
