Here is our latest #SpotlightonArts&Culture on Community Radio WPKN 89.5-FM. This month, hear the story behind Migrant's Alphabet Exhibit, Opens Oct. 4, 2018 at City Lights of art by 26 leading national mixed-media artists highlighting the issues surrounding migration, immigration, asylum, and refugees.

The exhibit that opened Thursday Oct. 4 at CiTY LiGhTs Gallery, Bridgeport, will be traveling the country, bringing an awareness of the issues and discussion of solutions to the mounting problems surrounding the migration of people across international borders.

The curator of the show is artist and Managing Director of Bridgeport's Nest Arts Factory, Jane Davila. She will be joined in the studio by @JohanaRendonLedesama, Program Manager at the Burroughs Community Center in Bridgeport, who as part of her job runs #OurWovenCommunity, that provides refugee women with the tools and skills to successfully integrate into the Bridgeport community, and @EvelyneMukasonga, a participant in the Our Woven Community program, and a refugee from Rwanda, where both her parents were killed in the 1994 massacre of the Tutsi by members of the Hutu majority government.

Running from A for Asylum to Z for Zero Tolerance, the show illustrates many of the different sides of migration and the difficulties faced by migrants - those who cross or have crossed international borders away from their habitual place of residence, regardless of their legal status, whether the movement is voluntary or involuntary, what the causes for the movement are, or what the length of the stay is.

Hear about the roles that the arts and artistic skills can play in raising the issues and solving some of the difficulties within this community: Monday Oct. 8 at noon on WPKN Independent Community Radio 89.5-FM.
