  • Eric March, artist and organizer, discusses the Erector Square's 100th anniversary Open Studios
Erector Square, which celebrates its 100th birthday in 2023, has always had a special place in the creative life of New Haven, Connecticut. Until 1967, it was the home of A.C. Gilbert's factory that produced Erector Sets and dozens of other toys and science kits that challenged kids' creativity and ingenuity. In recent decades, it has become studio space for over 100 artists as well as theater companies, yoga and jujitsu studios, and other creative disciplines.
In celebration of these 100 years, the artists of Erector Square are opening their studios on October 21 and 22, 2023, from noon to five.
Open Studios organizer Eric March spoke with WPKN's Valerie Richardson.

  • Basel Alnajjar And The Second Nakba
On the October 15, 2023 episode of Mic Check, host Mike Merli was joined by Basel Alnajjar, a Palestinian/Syrian American residing in Connecticut.
Basel organizes with American Muslims for Palestine - Connecticut, and was an avid member of Students for Justice in Palestine as well, still aiding in their efforts.
During the discussion, Basel speaks about his family's roots in the West Bank; the first Nakba in 1948; Israel's brutal slaughter of over 2,300 Palestinians in the past eight days; the Second Nakba unfolding right now on Gaza, with Israel's forced migration of 1.2 million people; and his experiences on the front-lines organizing for Palestine as a university student here in Connecticut.
Basel shared the following demands, towards the end of the interview:
    1. Urge elected officials to condemn Israel's genocide on the Gaza Strip and pressure Israel to call off the ground invasion.
    2. Give Palestinians support (access to basic resources and ending the Gaza blockade).
    3. Support HR 2590 (which condemns the imprisonment and illegal interrogation of Palestinian children).
