In these cold and dark days of winter, a lot of people find it hard to face the cold and dark every morning and hit the snooze button for an extra ten-minute snooze. Obtaining good-quality sleep is essential for good health, but it often isn't addressed with the same level of importance as other factors such as diet and health.

Gratitude is often a particular focus in November, as Thanksgiving begins the annual holiday season. Dr. Kulveen Virdee suggests that the powerful emotional boost from gratitude can provide profound psychological and even physical benefits and should be cultivated year-round.

Our homes address “The Holidays”: whether cultural, familial or personal. History has evolved holiday use from the “Groaning Board” to the Open House. Passing trays of Hors D’oeuvres, roasting meat or mulling cider on the family hearth, watching the giant flat screen (binge watching or Yule Log Watching) – where we live has evolved in how we celebrate.

Joining me in studio is the historian and father Richard Mammana who founded Project Canterbury http://anglicanhistory.org, which is a free online archive of out of print Anglican books, and is a full-on observer of contemporary life in a historic context. He serves the headquarters of the Episcopal Church as its Associate for Ecumenical and Interreligious relations, and is Papa to six year old and a soon to be four year old daughters. He is a distant cousin of Clement Clarke Moore, author of ’Twas the Night before Christmas.

Then we talk to William Hosley the principal of Terra Firma Northeast, is a cultural resource development and marketing consultant, new media expert, historian, museologist and preservationist who’s body of work has always been primary about place – especially the Connecticut River Valley and Vermont where he spent a career that began at the VT Division for Historic Preservation in 1977. He was formerly Director of the New Haven Museum and Connecticut Landmarks where he cared for a chain of historic attractions throughout Connecticut.

Last we talk to photographer Caryn B. Davis who has just published “A Connecticut Christmas” with Globe Pequot written by Eric Lehman https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/18/travel/connecticut-christmas.html She began her career in the visual arts 30 years ago as a cameraperson, editor, and producer of documentaries. She has been a professional photographer since 2000, specializing in architectural photography. Her work has taken her to over 50 countries, and still counting! She often combines her images with words to create compelling articles that have been featured in more than 60 magazines.

"Net Neutrality"-- what does this mean and why should you care?

This month I am in conversation with Thomas Kadri, a Ph.D. in Law candidate at Yale University whose his research spans the intersection of media, technology, and the First Amendment.

The FCC has repealed consumer protections that prohibit internet service providers - or ISP's- from discriminating against or favoring websites by blocking or throttling internet traffic. These ISP's will also be allowed to charge fees to websites and online services for faster and more reliable network access. We will discuss the ramifications of this, in particular for artists, non-profits and other small-scale producers of online content.

To sweeten this rather sobering topic for our final show for 2017, I am including some short musical clips from my picks for the top 10 albums and songs for the year.
