Wrestle Update

A new era is among us and we get into it, as we talk about the debut runs for AEW's Dynamite on MAX and Raw's debut on Netflix and the differences in approaches and how they much they made it feel like a big deal or went with a business as usual approach, and just how much filler they fit into all these hours of iconic television. Plus a shocking amount of discussion about random shows, from MAX shows to Topanga, it's all discussed here! And then. The main event. The third major streaming debut...ICW No Holds Barred!? Yes Nello got Dylan to travel to a place he fears most...the opposite side of his state of Tennessee! Chattanooga and the chains get their love as Nello's favorite promotion gets some love to start off the year in an incredibly violent, yet heartfelt show with one of Dylan's old friends doing commentary! It was truly an experience. A southern and at times even satanic experience.

It was an insane show with high highs and low lows, with twists and turns to the point of having even a whole show's worth in the main event. But regardless of that from all the returns, we get into philosophical conversations about the modern terms of usage of kayfabe in wrestling and the appropriate handling of sensitive subjects in pro wrestling, as well as questioning the status of AEW's babyface side of things at the moment with yet another heel heavy show. Of course there are various shenanigans afoot as usual, as we close out the Continental Classic and AEW as a whole for 2024.

The title says it all for this one, although in truth after the first 10 minutes or so of silly talk about one of the best video game series ever as well as The Game Awards, we get down to business. The first half of the show we go over and catch up on the Continental Classic as we head towards a huge final week of tournament play, and what could be seen as two of the absolute best the CC has had to offer. (One is arguably one of the best matches AEW has to offer in 2024) The second half of the show is a full review and breakdown of ROH's Final Battle. We go through the craziness early, Nigel's greatness, a disappointment in the main event AGAIN, and just try to figure out what exactly is Ring of Honor right now???

We start off with a discussion on Fire Pro after last week's hit Here Comes the Pain segment, but quickly transition to talk about the critically acclaimed New Day segment on Raw and the shocking end to the group. After that it's time for a run through NXT's Deadline and a look at the future prospects of many of the players on the WWE's 3rd brand with praise for the women's efforts in the Iron Survivor Challenge as well as the great work of Tavion Heights and Axiom in the tag titles match. From there we finally shift to the next step in our ongoing CC coverage including the appearance of the CC on Rampage for the first time and this being Mark Briscoe week in terms of quality.

As always, check us out on Social Media to talk about WWE, AEW, or the indies (with Nello bringing us deathmatch reports next week since he'll be live at 2 shows!)

Back again for a double dose of Wrestle Update this week, this time we're covering two different companies that unexpectedly clashed in business and outside any wrestling sense in AEW & GCW. First off we talk the first week of the Continental Classic and how much of a relief it is to have the tournament back in the current landscape of the company. Secondly we talk about Josh Barnett's Bloodsport XII which had competitors from WWE, AEW & TNA all somehow on the same show and delivering the American take on shoot style Bloodsport is known for.

Check us out and talk about all sorts of wrestling at the usual places while weighing in on the action and controversies alike the US brings us in pro wrestling.

WU is back talking all kinds of things, so much so we had to split things up into to 2 episodes! In part 1 we start off talking about Nello's work and our thoughts on the Game Awards, followed by a review of Survivor Series! We talk about two (too many?) War Games matches on the same night, talk about the potential of Priest and what grade he gets, then Dylan's knowledge of Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain's roster gets tested as he takes on Ludwig Kaiser. Obviously there is a part about War Pigs and we disagree on it's usage.

Check us out on your favorite social media and talk to us about wrestling, games or anything else going on.

Our second ever Full Gear review! We go over the entire show as well as the pre-show featuring a Nello favorite, Big Boom AJ, Big Justice & The Rizzler, a corner of the internet Dylan has never traveled to before somehow. After that we go over not just the matches but where AEW is right now in their storylines and how certain matches' builds hurt them going into the show and which wrestlers were able to outshine what they've been given. Finally we go over the card as a whole and where we could be going, and just who will be able to take back the Superstation.

Check us out wherever you like on social media and talk pro wrestling:

The return is real! And since it is Nello that found his way back it's a warm return for him talking GCW! The Nick Gage Invitational is one of the preeminent deathmatch tournaments of the year and Dylan & Nello are back to talk all about it. From Drake Younger losing it and trying to attack a man in the parking lot, to the emotional story told on the evening of Sawyer Wreck's retirement, to the shocking return at the end of the show (and even more shocking appearance of Deathmatch Miyu Yamashita!?). The whole thing gets covered and a fun time was had!

Love you all and thank you for checking us out after our absence. Check back next post-Full Gear for our return to the AEW landscape and our next episode! Meanwhile follow us on Twitter/X & BlueSky to keep up with all of our wrestling related happenings!

On the most emotional episode of WU to date, Nello returns to talk about the best AEW show, maybe one of the best shows we've ever seen. The star of the show is of course the man in the main event who retired in heroic and triumphant fashion, "The Icon" Sting! We actually have quite a few disagreements on this show, we went different ways entirely on the women's title match and the Triple Threat World Title match and are slightly apart on multiple other matches. The takes keep coming all the way until the main event and then it all comes out as we talk about the truly epic retirement match and the spectacle brought upon us by Sting & Darby Allin vs. The Young Bucks. An unforgettable show in multiple ways, we talk about the show, what could come up in the future for acts like Takeshita & Will Ospreay, and grand scheme thinking of this world of wrestling we have.

Thanks for listening! Let us know what you thought of the show, and your favorite Sting moments~

WWE comes through with Elimination Chamber which took place in Perth, Australia. And much like earlier in the month in what has become unofficially "Live Month" on Wrestle Update after both Dylan, his sister and Nello all attended shows and talked about them on the show, Dylan welcomes on a longtime wrestling fan and podcaster in the world of Japanese promotion AJPW, Talking Triple Crown's own Jessie joins after making the trip with her family to Perth and shares her perspective from the disappointment of the lack of stuff at the Super Store to the venue, the fans, the atmosphere, the vibes and the show itself! Two Elimination Chamber matches and a whole heck of a lot of fireworks for Cody Rhodes punctuated the WWE's trip down under and we discuss it all, and maybe a bit of vegemite as well.

Check out Jessie's show all about AJPW, Talking Triple Crown on the Kick Out 2.99 network, and follow her on X (FKA Twitter): @SisterJessiee & @RoyalRoad72 for her AJPW exclusive account.

Check the show out and let us know what you think as we head into Revolution and WrestleMania!
