And for our algo-overlords (please introduce us to your friends!):
Welcome to your literary happy hour Writers Drinking Whiskey, the show where you share a drink with writers from around the globe and you find more than your next read: you find your next AUTHOR. Hosted by award-winning author William R. Hincy, the show takes booktube, authortube and booktok to another level with engaging, in-depth, and merrily irreverent conversations with today’s most interesting writers. And for our writers joining us, there's plenty of creative writing tips, fiction writing tricks, and poetry read by the poets.

    Bios:
“Some people run from their demons; others sit down and have cocktails with theirs.” William R. Hincy is a man who does and writes about the latter. Having become a writer after deciding it was the only sensible thing for a problem drinker to do, Hincy aspires to use literature to connect society on an emotional level through characters who no longer create messes but have instead become the mess. Between rounds, Hincy has won 3 American Fiction Awards, an International Book Award, and his personal anthology of short fiction WITHOUT EXPIRATION was named one of the Best Books of 2020 by Kirkus Reviews. He now lives outside Los Angeles with his wife and kids, having found solace in the notion that the only things sacred are self and whiskey-winged interludes.

Kali White VanBaale is the author of the novels The Monsters We Make, The Good Divide, and The Space Between.  She's the recipient of an American Book Award, an Independent Publisher’s silver medal for general fiction, the Fred Bonnie Memorial First Novel Award, the Eric Hoffer Book Award for General Fiction, two Iowa Arts Council major artist grants, and the Great River Writer’s Retreat. She's also writes and publishes short stories and essays, is a regular contributor to the A&E Network True Crime blog series, and serves as the managing editor-at-large for the essay journal Past Ten.

Kali holds an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She's a core faculty member in the Lindenwood University MFA in Writing Program and was named Adjunct Professor of the Year in 2022, and a RISE Scholar in 2023. She regularly teaches writing workshops for the Iowa Summer Writing Festival and The Loft Literary Center. In addition to writing and teaching, Kali is an advocate and state lobbyist for mental healthcare reform.

In previous professional lives, Kali was a county case manager for mentally disabled adults and children, a substitute librarian, a gymnastics instructor, a childcare provider, a waitress, a jewelry counter attendant at Target, and spent one winter working on a Christmas tree farm, and one summer detasseling cornfields. She also lived in a remote Hungarian village for several weeks while volunteering on an organic vegetable farm.

Born and raised on a dairy farm in southern Iowa, she now lives and writes on a quiet acreage outside Des Moines with her family.

Happy Halloween! On this episode, we discuss author Michael A. Kozlowski’s new book, AMERICAN GHOST STORIES, and he reads the "Minnie Quay" story based on his mother’s encounter with the haunt. And the “Magical Mistress of Mixology, the Patron Saint of Shots,” Christen Ballew stops by to share her recipe for the Michigan Manhattan.

    Bios:
John Macilroy: Fully recovered from the practice of law, as well as turns in the corporate wheelhouse and several university adjunct appointments, John W. "Mac" MacIlroy began writing creatively in 2016. His first book, a co-authored collection of "mostly, mostly true" stories of a zany boyhood, was published in 2017: Not Exactly Rocket Scientists and Other Stories was featured on syndicated national radio, including iHeart Media's Unplugged and Totally Uncut, and a sequel is in the works. Tony Dow, who played "Wally Cleaver" on Leave It to Beaver, said of Rocket Scientists "What fun!" It was like hanging around with Lumpy, Eddie and the guys from the show," and best-selling author Pat Conroy called it "a great book about friendship."

Turning to short fiction, his stories have appeared in Short Fiction Break, Short Story America, Catfish Stew, Ebb & Flow, Reflections, and Y'all Magazine, which named his "Duke's" a "Best of 2019 Short Story." "The Man Inside" was a finalist in the 2021 Coker Fellowship in Fiction, as well as the Excellence in Southern Lowcountry Writing competition. His story "Three Buses" was named the winner of the 2021 Amy Munnell Prize.

With a sly take on the world-at-large, he is a frequent and entertaining guest at book signings, book clubs, workshops and festivals, and his support of the independent booksellers community was recognized in 2021 as an author member of the Book Industry Charitable Foundation Leadership Circle.

A graduate of Yale College, Harvard, and the University of Virginia School of Law, he lives along a Carolina tidal creek with his wife and a painted ceramic dodo named duMont.
