In the midst of creating worlds, lore, locations, and cultures, it can be easy to let the characters who live in them become an afterthought. But, they are the heart of the story and it's imperative that they feel real to the reader. So, today, I'm sharing what I've learned about writing characters who are interesting, well-developed, and real.

So, one of the things I always try to make clear on the podcast and my platforms, in general, is that while I love books, I love writing, I love the written word in general, I don't read as much as I used to. It's not necessarily something I'm either proud or ashamed of -- it's just a fact of my current life. I love to read, but because I read for work, sometimes I just don't have it in me to read for pleasure. That being said, when I do read for pleasure that are certain aspects I love to see in books.
