Hunter Dickinson had 22 points to lead Michigan in a lopsided 82-58 win over No. 3 Purdue. Eli Brooks had 16 points, Moussa Diabate had 15 points and Caleb Houstan added 14 for the Wolverines. Jaden Ivey had 18 points, Trevion Williams had 12 and Zach Eden scored 10 for Purdue, which saw its six-game winning streak snapped. Purdue, which went into the game shooting 50.8% from the floor, shot only 44%. Michigan made 53% of shots from the floor. The Boilermakers had been making 41% of their 3-pointers but made only 4 as a team in 17 attempts. Dickinson had four 3-pointers for Michigan.

Ben Vander Plas had a season-high 24 points as Ohio beat Central Michigan 81-72. Mark Sears added 22 points for the Bobcats. Kevin Miller led the Chippewas on Thursday night with a season-high 25 points.

NFL – Bears' new OC Getsy tasked with getting most out of Fields

Luke Getsy faces a big job as he tries to get the most out of Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields and help turn around a struggling offense. That’s just one part of a major reboot in Chicago after a 6-11 season. The Bears have a new general manager and coach in Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus. Getsy, defensive coordinator Alan Williams and special teams coordinator Richard Hightower were formally introduced on Thursday. Getsy comes from Green Bay, where he was the quarterbacks coach for the last three seasons.

NFL – Packers QB Aaron Rodgers earns 4th MVP award, 2nd in a row

A four-time MVP, three Super Bowl players and the beginning of a brother act. The Associated Press 2021 NFL awards had a bit of everything, starting with Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers becoming the fifth player to repeat as Most Valuable Player. Tennessee's Mike Vrabel is Coach of the Year, while Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow (Comeback Player) and receiver Ja'Marr Chase (Offensive Rookie) also got awards. So did Rams wideout Cooper Kupp (Offensive Player), Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt (Defensive Player), Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons (Defensive Rookie) and Dan Quinn.

NHL – Coyotes to use Arizona State's new hockey arena for 3 years

The Arizona Coyotes will use Arizona State’s new on-campus hockey arena for at least the next three years while the team looks for a permanent home. Arizona State’s arena will hold about 5,000 fans, easily making it the NHL’s smallest home venue. The Coyotes will begin there next season and the deal has an option for the 2025-26 season. The city of Glendale announced last year it would not renew the annual lease agreement at Gila River Arena for the 2021-22 season. The team has submitted a bid for a tract of land in Tempe in what could be a step toward a permanent home.

This week's Mid-West Family player of the week is Nate Necas, a Senior from Bridgman High School and a captain on the varsity basketball team.

Though Nate's a dynamic running back on the football field, and an impressive Center Fielder and Pitcher on the baseball diamond, last week he did something on the basketball court that only 3 other's wearing a Bridgman Bee jersey have ever accomplished: making 9 3-pointers in a single game.

In Bridgman's 67-25 win over Michigan Lutheran, Nate scored 27 points, including going 9-12 from behind the arc, grabbed 6 rebounds and nabbed 6 steals to help Bridgman get over the .500 mark this season.

In addition to being a 3 sport athlete, Nate maintains a 3.6 GPA in the classroom and hopes to continue playing baseball after he graduates this spring.

Pius Suter and Robby Fabbri scored goals to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 on Wednesday night. The Flyers three times scored seconds after a Detroit goal. Givani Smith sealed the win for Detroit with his fourth goal in the third and Vladislav Namestnikov added an empty-netter in the final minute. Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond also scored for Detroit. The Red Wings were bailed out when defenseman Marc Staal saved the puck from trickling past the goal line to keep the game tied early.

Blackhawks 4, Oilers 1 – DeBrincat has goal, 2 assists as Blackhawks beat Oilers 4-1

Alex DeBrincat had a goal and two assists as the Chicago Blackhawks got off to fast start and beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-1. Brandon Hagel, Dylan Strome and Kirby Dach also scored for the Blackhawks, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 40 shots — the fourth time this season he’s had at least that many saves. Leon Draisaitl scored for the Oilers, who have lost two in a row and have just three wins in their last 11 at home. Mike Smith had 26 saves.

NHL – Blackhawks interview Tampa Bay's Mathieu Darche for GM job

The Chicago Blackhawks have interviewed Tampa Bay executive Mathieu Darche for their general manager job. The 45-year-old Darche is the director of hockey operations for the Lightning, winner of the last two Stanley Cup titles. Darche is the sixth known candidate for the job. Interim GM Kyle Davidson, Carolina Hurricanes assistant GM Eric Tulsky, former NHL forward Scott Mellanby, longtime NHL executive Peter Chiarelli and Chicago Cubs executive Jeff Greenberg also have interviewed for the role.

Paul Atkinson Jr. scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds as Notre Dame recovered after blowing a 14-point lead to beat Louisville 63-57 for sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Fighting Irish won for the seventh time in eight games and broke a first-place tie with idle Duke. Atkinson collected his third straight double-double, Dane Goodwin added 16 points and Blake Wesley 11 for Notre Dame, which beat Louisville twice in the same season for the first time. Jae’Lyn Withers scored a career-tying 20 points, El Ellis added 13 and Dre Davis 10 for the Cardinals, who have lost six straight games for the first time since the 1990-91 season.

DeMar DeRozan scored 36 points, Nikola Vucevic added 18 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists and the Chicago Bulls handed the Charlotte Hornets their sixth consecutive loss, 121-109. Zach LaVine chipped in with 27 points for the Bulls (34-21), who pulled back to within one game of the Eastern Conference leading Miami Heat. LaMelo Ball had 33 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hornets, who continued to struggle with their long distance shooting. During their six-game losing streak, the Hornets finished their homestand 0-4.

The win lifts the second-place Badgers (19-4 overall, 10-3 Big Ten) to within a half-game of first-place Illinois in the Big Ten Conference. Marcus Bingham Jr. had 15 points to lead the Spartans (17-6, 8-4), who remain in fourth place in the Big Ten. Malik Hal added 12 off the bench. Chucky Hepburn and Tyler Wahl both added 11 points for the Badgers.

Hunter Dickinson scored 19 points and matched a career best with 15 rebounds to lead Michigan to a 58-57 victory over Penn State. Michigan (12-9, 6-5 Big Ten) never trailed in the second half, but Penn State’s John Harrar made a pair of free throws to tie it at 48. The Wolverines answered with an 8-3 surge and led 56-51 with eight seconds to play. Jalen Pickett scored 14 points and Sessoms had 13 for Penn State (9-11, 4-8 Big Ten).

Dae Dae Grant had 25 points as Miami (Ohio) edged past Western Michigan 62-57. Lamar Norman Jr. led the Broncos with 12 points.

Cameron Healy scored a season-high 27 points including a game-tying 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation and Central Michigan went on to beat Ball State 89-85 in overtime. Healey’s jumper with 3:32 left were the first points of overtime and the Chippewas led for the remainder. Miryne Thomas had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Cardinals.

Trae Young scored 34 points and the Atlanta Hawks regained their 3-point touch and overwhelmed the trade-depleted Indiana Pacers 133-112. After making only 5 of 25 3s in Sunday’s 103-94 loss at Dallas, the Hawks sank 17 of 33 long-range shots. Chris Duarte led the Pacers with 25 points. The Pacers had only eight healthy players. Thursday’s six-player trade sent three players, including two-time All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis, to Sacramento.

Luka Doncic had 33 points and 11 assists, Jalen Brunson scored 21 points and the Dallas Mavericks overwhelmed the Detroit Pistons 116-86. The Mavs won their third game in a row. Doncic was three rebounds shy of his third consecutive triple-double. Hamidou Diallo had 18 points to lead the Pistons, who have lost five in a row and nine of 10. Jeramie Grant had 15 points and Isaiah Stewart had 14 points and 15 rebounds. The Pistons played their fourth game in a row without standout rookie Cade Cunningham, their leading scorer who missed the chance to play at home before family and friends because of a hip injury.
