Daniel Carlson's 48-yard field goal as time expired sent the Las Vegas Raiders to a 16-14 win over the COVID-19-depleted Cleveland Browns in a game pushed back two days by the NFL amid an uptick of virus cases across the league. Down by a point, quarterback Derek Carr patiently drove the 7-7 Raiders into Cleveland territory in the final two minutes. Then Carlson shrugged off being iced by the Browns to boot his winner, keeping Las Vegas in the playoff mix.

Vikings Tame Bears

Kirk Cousins passed for two touchdowns and the Minnesota Vikings evened their record at 7-7 with a 17-9 victory over the Bears in Chicago. The two-time Pro Bowler also connected with Justin Jefferson for a 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter and threw a 7-yarder to Ihmir Smith-Marsette in the third. Dalvin Cook ran for 89 yards D.J. Wonnum had three sacks and the Vikings recovered three fumbles.

Bulls Defeat Rockets

DeMar DeRozan scored 26 points and the Chicago Bulls beat the Houston Rockets 133-118. The Bulls never trailed and led by 25 points during the first half. They have won two consecutive games and six of their last eight. The Rockets have lost five of their last seven despite 23 points and 11 rebounds from center Christian Wood.

NHL Pushes Pause On Season

The NHL is beginning a leaguewide shutdown Wednesday amid an increase of positive COVID-19 test results among players across the league. Beginning the annual holiday break two days early means five additional games will be postponed, bringing the total this season to 49. More than a quarter of NHL teams had been shut down through at least the weekend because of the pandemic. The spread of delta and omicron variants across North America has led the NHL to postpone all cross-border games through the Christmas break and made Olympic participation unlikely.

Lions Blast Cardinals

Kyler Murray had a shaky performance and that helped the Detroit Lions stun the Arizona Cardinals 30-12 on Sunday. The Cardinals started the day tied for the NFL's best record and were undefeated on the road. The Lions were mired at the bottom of the league standings before the first snap. Arizona blew its chance to get in the playoffs for the first time since 2015 with a win over a team it was favored to beat by nearly two touchdowns. The Cardinals can still earn a postseason berth during Week 15, but they'll need some other playoff contenders to lose.

Pistons End Losing Streak

Saddiq Bey scored 26 points and the Detroit Pistons snapped their franchise record-tying, 14-game losing streak with a 100-90 victory over the Miami Heat. Hamidou Diallo had 15 points and seven rebounds for Detroit, which recorded its first victory since a 97-89 triumph over Indiana on November 17. Frank Jackson added 12 points and Killian Hayes chipped in 11. Max Strus led the Heat with 24 points off the bench. Kyle Lowry had 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Dewayne Dedmon added 11 points for Miami, which had won four of its last five.

Bulls Beat Lakers

DeMar DeRozan scored 38 points after missing two weeks in the NBA's health and safety protocols to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 115-110 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. It was Chicago's first game since December 11 after having two postponed last week because of a COVID-19 outbreak that put 10 players in the health and safety protocols.

NHL Shuts Down Red Wings

The NHL and its players association temporarily clamped down on teams crossing the Canadian border and shut down operations of two more teams. Sunday's moves were done in hopes of salvaging the season amid COVID-19 outbreaks across the league. The league and union made the announcement Sunday, adding the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs to the list of teams told to shut down operations. Canadian-based teams will not play U.S.-based teams from Monday through Thursday ahead of the league's holiday break from December 24 through December 26. Postponed games are expected be rescheduled. All told, 27 games have been postponed through Saturday and 12 more through Thursday will be rescheduled.

Chiefs Top Chargers In OT

The Kansas City Chiefs are closer to another AFC West title after outlasting the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime. Travis Kelce scored on a 34-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes in OT to send the Chiefs past the Chargers, 34-28. Kelce caught a tying 7-yard touchdown pass with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter, then ended the game with his catch-and-run in overtime. Justin Herbert gave the Chargers a 28-21 lead with 2:19 remaining on a 8-yard TD pass to Keenan Allen. Mahomes finished 31 of 47 for a season-high 410 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Kelce had 10 receptions for a career-best 191 yards and two touchdowns.

NFL Updates Protocols In Response To COVID-19 Cases

The NFL has updated its protocols in reaction to an increase in COVID-19 cases around the league, and it is pushing booster shots as the most effective protection against the coronavirus. As part of its protocol changes, the NFL is requiring masks regardless of vaccination status, and remote or outdoor meetings. It also is stopping in-person meals and prohibiting outside visitors while on team travel. Chief medical officer Allen Sills cited the omicron strain for the uptick in positive tests. The league is also making some changes to its protocols that would allow vaccinated players who test positive to return sooner. Approximately 100 NFL players across the 32 teams have tested positive this week.

Pistons Lose 13th Straight

Caris LeVert scored 20 of his 31 points in the first half and was 12 of 18 from the field as the Pacers sent the Pistons to their 13th straight loss, 122-113. Justin Holiday added 17 points for Indiana, which shot 50% in taking a 70-64 halftime lead. Saddiq Bey led the Pistons with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while first overall pick Cade Cunningham added 19 points for Detroit.

Red Wings Fall To Hurricanes

Nino Niederreiter's second goal of the night broke a third-period tie in the Hurricanes' 5-3 victory over the Red Wings. Niederreiter snapped a 3-3 deadlock 18 seconds into the final period to lead the short-handed Hurricanes. Carolina was without team scoring leader Sebastian Aho, second-leading scorer Andrei Svechnikov, captain Jordan Staal, Ian Cole, Seth Jarvis and Steven Lorentz due to COVID-19 protocol.

MSU Loses Walker

Michigan State All-American running back Kenneth Walker is skipping the Peach Bowl and his senior season to enter the NFL draft. Walker made the announcement on social media yesterday. He was named Big Ten Running Back of the Year and picked up the Walter Camp and Doak Walker awards.

Pacers Fall To Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks were able to win on Wednesday without two of their top players. The Bucks leaned on Jrue Holiday and had a 21-0 fourth-quarter run to beat the Pacers, 114-99. Holiday had 26 points and 14 assists for Milwaukee, which was tied before opening the fourth quarter on a 25-5 run. Pat Connaughton and Jordan Nwora each scoring eight points during the run and finished with 20 points apiece. The Bucks were without Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH'-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON'-poh) and Khris Middleton. Antetokounmpo was placed in COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday and Middleton was out with a hyperextended left knee.

Pistons Visit Pacers Tonight

The Pistons are back in action tonight as they tip off against the Pacers on the road. Detroit had been scheduled to play in Chicago on Tuesday, but the game was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Bulls organization. The Pistons are 4-and-22 and looking to snap a 12-game losing streak.

Blackhawks Beat Capitals In Overtime

The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Capitals at home in overtime, 5-4, behind Caleb Jones' first goal of the season. Alex DeBrincat scored twice on the power play, while Philipp Kurashev also found the back of the net for the first time this year. They scored three times in a 34-second span in the second period. Marc-Andre Fleury made 42 saves to earn a fourth win in his last five starts. They welcome the Predators tomorrow night.

Red Wings Visit Hurricanes Tonight

The Red Wings will skate against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh tonight. The game had been in question due to COVID-19 concerns with Carolina, which caused their game against Minnesota earlier this week to be postponed. Detroit has been dealing with its own virus issues as forwards Robby Fabbri and Michael Rasmussen were placed into Covid-19 protocols yesterday.

Blackhawks, Kyle Beach Reach Settlement

The Chicago Blackhawks are announcing in a joint statement with Susan Loggans, the attorney representing former prospect Kyle Beach, that they have reached a settlement agreement in the sexual assault lawsuit. Beach alleged that he was sexually assaulted by former video coach Brad Aldrich during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Team personnel was informed of the incident, but a decision was made not to further investigate during the postseason run. The Blackhawks are scheduled to conduct settlement negotiations on December 20th with a former high school player that was also sexually assaulted by Aldrich.

Michigan Football Signs 23 To Football Class Of 2022

Twenty-three players committed to play football at Michigan during yesterday's first day of early signing. The Wolverines added six players ranked first in their states, including defensive back Will Johnson from Grosse Pointe South High School. Ten of the early signees will play in postseason all-star games.

MSU Football Commitments

Michigan State football inked 22 commitments to open early signing yesterday. Four-star prospects Antonio Gates junior out of Dearborn Fordson High School and Dillon Tatum from West Bloomfield High are part of the Spartans 2022 recruiting class. MSU also added four transfers to next season's roster, including former Wisconsin running back Jalen Berger and former Florida defensive end Khris Bogle.
