The Southwestern Michigan 8-Man Football Conference has announced the addition of three new members for the 2020 season.  New additions to the conference are Bangor High School, Eau Claire High School, and Marcellus High School.

The three new members join original members Bridgman, Lake Michigan Catholic, Lawrence, Martin, Michigan Lutheran, New Buffalo, and Tri-Unity Christian.

Ella O’Sullivan of South Haven High School Volleyball is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of November 3, 2019.

For the week, Ella finished with two double-doubles. In the Rams’ District Semifinal win over Allegan, she finished with 14 kills and 17 digs. In their District Championship match against Paw Paw, she turned in 13 kills and 12 digs.

Ella is also a member of the South Haven Tennis team and plays club volleyball. In the classroom, she carries a 3.0 grade point average.

Ella is the daughter of Amy O’Sullivan Wheeler and Matt O’Sullivan of South Haven.

Another finalist for the week was Mallory Dorow of South Haven Volleyball.

Arie Hackett of Bridgman High School Cross Country is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of October 27, 2019. This is Arie’s first year running cross country, and at the Division 4 State Finals, she helped lead the Bees to the team state championship by placing 11th overall out of 238 runners. She finished with a personal best time of 19:58. She ended the season earning All-Conference, All-Region, and All-State honors.

Arie is also a member of the Bridgman Basketball and Softball teams, and DECA. In the classroom, she carries a 3.8 grade point average.

Arie is the daughter of Trisha Roberts of Baroda.

Other finalists for the week were Riley Mullen of St. Joe Cross Country and Karly Klaer of St. Joe Volleyball.

Madison Lawson of Lawton High School Volleyball is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of October 27, 2019.

In the Blue Devils’ come from behind victory over Paw Paw, Madison finished with 24 kills, surpassing the 500 mark. She also turned in 12 digs and three blocks.

Madison is also a member of the National Honor Society and plays travel volleyball. In the classroom, she carries a 3.59 grade point average.

Madison is the daughter of Mandi Lawson of Lawton.

Another finalist for the week was Ella O’Sullivan of South Haven Volleyball.
