Grant Ruddell of Lakeshore High School Football is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of September 8, 2019. In the Lancers’ win over Niles, Grant caught 11 passes for 110 yards. He also punted three times for 141 yards, a 47 yard per punt average.

Grant is also a member of the Lakeshore Basketball and Baseball teams, and is involved with Young Life. In the classroom, he carries a 3.5 grade point average.

Grant is the son of John and Jenna Ruddell of St. Joe.

Other finalists for the week were Daiden Shaw of Lake Michigan Catholic Football, Jacob Scouler of St. Joe Soccer, and Nikki Nate of Niles Volleyball.

Nick Pultz of Hartford High School Soccer and Football is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of September 8, 2019.

The Indians’ Soccer team posted wins over Cassopolis and Marcellus, and also defeated South Haven and Berrien Springs to capture the Shoreline Shootout. As Center Back, Nick anchored the starting defense that did not allow a goal during the stretch. Then, in Hartford’s football win against Bloomingdale, he made three of four extra point tries.

Nick earned All-State honors last year in soccer. In the classroom, he carries a 3.57 grade point average.

Another finalist for the week was Kaiden Cole of South Haven Swimming.
