    CRUISIN' IN CONTOURS
Ain't moving up, ain't moving down
Ain't reaching for the stars or the ground
Ain't moving up, ain't moving down
Just watching all the people on this merry-go-round
    Just cruisin' in contours
Just cruisin' in my low key contour for a while...
    Just cruisin' on
I hit some pretty bad times but the bad times are gone...
I'm still dreaming of a brotherhood,
We're just driftin' like ships without a sail,
In my dreams I don't see no bloodshed
Just all the children sleeping in their beds.
    I ain't taking lessons from a preacher,
    Asking if I would,
    I ain't taking lessons from a soldier,
    Just shouting that I should,
Because I'm finding too many answers,
    Just watching like I should,
So I'll just keep cruisin' in my contour
    Just cruisin' how I should

    FRIENDSHIP AND LIFE
Friendship and life, and human rights,
Don't cost nothing but friendship and life
Don't you shut out the light on those who know your past
Don't you shut out the light.
Don't you cut down the line between you and your friends,
Don't you cut down the lines.
Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes, don't they
Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes, don't they
There's those who believe in riches,
Those who strove to have might
There's those who just believe in friendship and a happy life
For a happy life, say friendship and life,
    Friendship and life
Friendship and life, and human rights,
Don't cost nothing but friendship and life
Tears are making patterns on a yellow sky
Because those who believe in justice just don't close their eyes,
Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes, don't they
A friend can pull you from the gutter, turn dark to light
A friend can put back your fight like the kiss of life
Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes, don't they
There's those who believe in riches...
    Friendship and life...
    Friendship and life...

    LIVING IN THE GAP
There ain't no crime in living in the gap
If you want to take the shackles off your back,
    There's no crime in living,
If you don't like what they're giving,
There's no crime in living in the gap.
    Living in the gap, Jack...
    On your back Jack
    Losing contact
    Way too slack Jack
    Want our money back!
There ain't no crime in living in the gap
If you want to take the shackles off your back,
    There's no crime in living,
If you don't like what they're giving,
There's no crime in living in the gap.
Want to live my life in my own way,
Not tied up like a chess piece in the game.
    Want to live my life,
    Without the trouble and strife,
That makes a mind get tireder every day.
Oh my sweetheart where am I?
Just floating like a snowflake in the sky,
When the prophet calls my name
To introduce me to the game
Tell him I cut the clouds right off my back.
    Living in the gap, Jack...
Ain't gonna be no yes man saying
Ain't going to carry the can...
    Oh listen to the rain,
Each drop that falls comes back round again
But with every drop that falls
    A voice shouts duty calls
And duty knows the rules of the game.
    Living in the gap, Jack...
There's no crime in living in the gap...

Music and lyrics by G. Davies.
    Composed 20th September 1986.
    Recorded January 1987.
    Mixed March 1987.
    Lifted from cassette July 2025.
    Copyright © 1986 Explicit Music.
    Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records.
    Fun Facts:
This was one of three songs that George wrote on the same day.
The other two are The Warning and Gotta Getaway, from the previous tape.
Never Going Back to School Again was never performed by a band.
It was never heard by anybody until its release on SoundCloud.
George actually returned to school many times as a music teacher and to help speakers of other languages with their English.

  • Band of Georges: Dangerous
    Dangerous by George.
From Volume VIII Side A of the Band of Georges.
Music and lyrics by G. Davies.
    Composed 13th October 1986, 02:30 am-ish to 03:30 am-ish.
    Recorded February 1987.
    Mixed April 1987.
    Lifted from cassette July 2025.
    Copyright © 1986 Explicit Music.
    Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records.
    Fun Facts:
Dangerous almost became a part of the set of The Subterraineans.
Dean had mastered the guitar part in preparation.
It was perhaps the trickiest guitar part he ever learned.
Unfortunately, the band ended and morphed into Rough Terrain before the song was ever performed.
Lurking in the background of this recording you can hear the EDP Wasp.
The key of this song is G# minor.

  • Band of Georges: Get on the Road
Get on the Road by George (and friends).
From Volume VIII Side A of the Band of Georges.
Music and lyrics by G. Davies.
Composed 13th December 1986, 06:15 pm to 06:40 pm approx.
    Recorded March 1987.
    Mixed April 1987.
    Lifted from cassette July 2025.
    Copyright © 1986 Explicit Music.
    Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records.
    Fun Facts:
This version of Get on the Road is performed by The Subterraineans and comes from their Demo.
Get on the Road was composed during the days of The Subterraineans.
It quickly became a part of that band's set and included in their Demo.
After The Subterraineans folded and morphed into Rough Terrain, Get on the Road continued to be a song in Rough Terrain's set.
It was performed live many, many times.
It is in the key of A minor.
The clean guitar is played using a capot on the fifth fret.
The dirty guitar uses no capot.
This song was about the increasing desire to leave exeter.
In 1986, London was the place to be for a young musician.

  • Band of Georges: My Own Way
    My Own Way by George.
From Volume VIII Side B of the Band of Georges.
Music and lyrics by G. Davies.
    Composed 22nd February 1987, and circa 13th February 1987.
    Recorded March 1987.
    Mixed April 1987.
    Lifted from cassette July 2025.
    Copyright © 1987 Explicit Music.
    Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records.
    Fun Facts:
My Own Way features a lot of flange from the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress.
It is a song George wrote about a previous relationship that had ended.
When George's new girlfriend found the lyrics, she was grumpy.
My Own Way was never performed by a band and remained unheard until its release on SoundCloud.

    Light My Fire by George.
From Volume VIII Side A of the Band of Georges.
Music and lyrics by G. Davies.
Composed 26th December 1986, 09:30 pm to 10:30 pm approx.

It has remained unheard up until its release on SoundCloud.

  • Band of Georges: It's Just the Same Again
It's Just the Same Again by George.
From Volume VIII Side A of the Band of Georges.
Music and lyrics by G. Davies.
Composed 14th December 1986, 03:50 am to 05:10 am approx.
    Recorded March 1987.
    Mixed April 1987.
    Lifted from cassette July 2025.
    Copyright © 1986 Explicit Music.
    Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records.
    Fun Facts:
It's Just the Same Again started out as a pretty guitar piece in D.
Some of the inspiration for it came from somebody who played the same song every week at Topsham Folk Club, when Lemming Meringue played there.
Due to the time of year, George made it into a Christmas song.
As he has a profound dislike for Christmas songs in general, he regrets doing so.
    The tambourine was Ken's.
