Karen Taylor-Bass is an award-winning media strategist, activist, author, and inspirational speaker. She is the creator of the annual International Soulful Yoga: A Hybrid Experience. Bass has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Sirius XM, AARP, Fox News, and Dr. Oz. She is also the host of WURD’s early morning show, Soulful Sunrise, which airs from 6a-7a Mon-Fri.

Karen joins the show to talk about various tips to prioritize physical and mental health.

P.O.C. (Proof of Consciousness) is the host of WURD’s environment-centered Friday morning show, “ecoWURD Magazine,” which airs every Friday from 10am to 11am ET. She is also the visionary Founder and Host of REVIVE RADIO, an influential online broadcasting platform.

P.O.C. joins the show to discuss millennial participation in the "Hands Off!" protests, and her experience being at the one in Philadelphia this past Saturday. The Hands Off protests are a series of demonstrations launched across the United States on April 5th, 2025, in what is currently the largest one-day, nationwide display of public resistance against the second administration of President Donald Trump.

Iola Harper is the executive Director at the Women’s Opportunities Resource Center (WORC). Lynne Cutler is the founder of WORC. WORC is an organization whose mission is to promote social and economic self-sufficiency primarily for economically disadvantaged women and their families.

They both join the show to talk about the overall impact of WORC on the community, the success it’s had over the years, and their recent leadership change.

Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq. is the Executive Director of the American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APA Foundation). The American Psychiatric Association Foundation is the charitable arm of the American Psychiatric Association, dedicated to advancing mental health in communities through education, research, and public awareness.

Rawle joins the show to talk about mental health training in the workplace, and why creating a mentally healthy workplace is a business imperative. He also talks about the APA's learning program, "Notice". This is a learning program that provides employees with mental health training tools to support colleagues who may be struggling with their mental health.

Dr. Sonya Douglass is a Professor of Education Leadership, the Founding Director of the Black Education Research Collective, and Co-Director of the Urban Education Leaders Program at Columbia University.

Dr. Douglass examines the problem of racial inequality in K-12 schools and how race is conceptualized and understood by leaders for equity and social justice in the U.S. Her current work explores the problem and politics of race and educational inequality in non-U.S. contexts to include collaborations with faculty colleagues at University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and thought leaders at the Lemann Center for Leadership and Equity in Education in Brazil.

Dr. Douglass’ specialties include education policy, school segregation and desegregation, critical race theory in education, Black and African American education and leadership, and leadership for social justice. She joins Dr. Peterson for the Tuesday teach-in to discuss more about her work.

Atiyah Harmon is the Founder of Black Girls Love Math - which eliminates racial and gender inequality in mathematics. Through culturally responsive teaching practices, Black Girls Love Math cultivates a positive math identity for girls, and provides enrichment, mentoring and a community for Black girls to embrace math as a tool for empowerment.

She joins Dr. Peterson to discuss more about Black Girls Love Math, including after school classes at Girard College, a STEM summer camp this summer, and recently receiving $125,000 for funding.

Dr. Nia Imani Bailey is the President of the Byrd Cancer Education & Advocacy Foundation. As a Radiation Therapist and being a patient herself, Dr. Bailey intimately understands the challenges faced by cancer patients, navigating the complexities of the healthcare system with lupus & carrying a BCL6 cancer gene, and brings firsthand knowledge to her advocacy work.

She joins Dr. Peterson on Evening WURDs to discuss the upcoming “All Things Cancer and Wellness Expo” happening next Saturday, April 19th from 10AM - 5PM at the Center City Doubletree Hotel.

Rashaad Lambert is an evolver of the groundbreaking, culture-owned community - Black Excellence Society, founder of the CultureMakers Creative Agency - that specializes in campaigns for leading corporate brands. He is the author of “Guilty in the Court of Public Opinion” being released this Fall.

In addition to redefining media, Mr. Lambert continues to champion Black economic empowerment and sustainability - a mission that resonates strongly amid shifting corporate diversity commitments. He joins Dr. Peterson to discuss black economic empowerment & sustainability, and the importance of elevating black voices and businesses.

Kevin Shird is a three-time published author, activist, and lecturer to students. He lectures students on issues, such as substance abuse prevention, education, public health policy, mass incarceration and re-entry after incarceration. Mr. Shird is currently an Associate at the Center for Medical Humanities and Social Medicine at John Hopkins University, where he teaches a class titled “Life and Death in Charm City: Histories of Public Health in Baltimore, 1750 to the present."

He has just released his new book - “A Life for a Life: Poor Choices and Unresolved Trauma Is Killing America," and he joins Dr. Peterson on Evening WURDs to discuss his new book, and mental health & trauma as they relate to violence.

Dr. Emily Gee is the Senior Vice President of Inclusive Growth at the Center for American Progress, where she oversees economic policy, health policy and the Women’s Initiative. Emily Gee guides the department’s research, policy development and advocacy to support equitable economic growth and improve health and well-being.

Some of Ms. Gee’s expertise are in health care costs, coverage & access, and building an economy for all. She joins Dr. Peterson to discuss Trump’s sweeping tariffs, and their impact on the economy.
