Staff at the Detroit Zoo are over the moon to share that Zara, a 7-year-old giraffe, gave birth to a healthy newborn female calf last Sunday. The adorable little one is "already standing strong, nursing well, and hitting all her important early milestones."

Prices have gone up for this holiday season. Bankrate's 2025 Holiday Essentials Index finds that more than 3 in 4 holiday staples have gotten more expensive since last year, the most since 2022. Two Detroit high school students were taken by ICE to an immigration detention center in Texas, after being picked up by ICE agents last week. Chalkbeat Detroit Bureau Chief Lori Higgins says they arrests have sparked fear in the neighborhood, and there's not much information about why the girls -- who attend Western International High School -- were taken.
