Local government leaders from across the State of Michigan gathered to oppose a package of housing bills they say would override local zoning authority. House Bills 5529 through 5532 would limit how cities and townships regulate duplexes, accessory dwelling units, lot sizes and setbacks. Supporters argue the changes would increase housing supply and lower costs. Oakland County began addressing Legionella concerns in early November 2025 after an employee at the Sheriff’s Administration Building was diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. Testing detected low levels of the bacteria in parts of the county complex, prompting system flushing, temperature monitoring, installation of 0.2-micron filters, and expanded sampling. Recent follow-up tests show mostly non-detect results and improved readings, and officials describe the situation as ongoing prevention rather than a widespread outbreak. WWJ's Tim Pamplin reports.
