The Radnor Township Board of Commissioners have approved a single-use carryout bag ordinance, effective Thursday, Sept. 15. Retailers and residents have six months to comply with the new ordinance. Bags used to package bulk items like fruit and vegetables, newspaper and laundry bags are exempt under the ordinance. Several municipalities in the region have banned single use bags including Philadelphia, Easttown, and Haverford townships. Additionally, Narberth and West Chester boroughs have banned single use bags. Retailers may provide recyclable bags, however residents are encouraged to bring their own bags. Under the ordinance, retailers who violate this law would carry a $50 fine for the first offense; a $100 fine for the second offense, and $200 fine for the third offense.
