  • Afterwyrd: The Unicorn Skull Heist, Radioactive Wasps & The Warminster UFO

Hello and welcome to Afterwyrd, where we cram in all the wyrdness that doesn't fit into our regular episodes. This week, we're diving into a trio of wild stories that cover everything from ancient myths to modern-day mysteries.

    In this episode:

    • The Unicorn Skull Heist: Craig has a major update on the mysterious unicorn skull found in Cornwall and traded for unlimited beer. Was it a horse skull with a cow's horn attached? Did the pub owner take it to a museum or keep it for himself? We've got the latest from our on-the-ground investigation!
    • Radioactive Wasps & Rhinos: Andy shares a bizarre story about a radioactive wasp nest found at a nuclear facility and links it to a surprisingly similar story about radioactive rhinos. What could possibly go wrong?
    • The Warminster UFO: We dive into the "Warminster Thing" with an update on the new mural that marks 60 years since the town's UFO frenzy began. We also discuss a brand new UFO sighting in Gosport and a possible future guest from the Warminster UFO conference.
    • Haunted Mirrors & Bad Vibes: We explore the spiritualist claim that mirrors facing your bed can attract unwanted spirits and discuss the creepy reasons why you might want to cover them up.

  • Aliens, Cryptids & Bizarre Humanoids!

This week on Wyrd Wessex, we're diving into four incredible encounters with bizarre humanoid beings from all over the UK. Andy and Craig discuss the tales, weigh the evidence, and pick their favorites.

    • The Gateshead Grey (1940): The wild story of a five-year-old boy's encounter with a group of aliens during WWII, including the now-legendary moment when his uncle "intervened" with a coal shovel. The story also features a visit from the Men in Black and a strange physical mark that remained for years.
    • Sam the Sandown Clown (1973): We explore the truly bizarre tale from the Isle of Wight of a child's encounter with a seven-foot-tall being named "All Colours Sam." The hosts discuss his strange appearance, unsettling eating habits, and the theories that he was an interdimensional being, a shared delusion, or maybe even an early case of screen memory.
    • Spring-Heeled Jack (1837-1904): A look at the classic Victorian urban legend of a demonic figure known for his incredible leaps, glowing red eyes, and terrifying ability to breathe fire. The hosts discuss famous attacks and whether it was a sustained prank, mass hysteria, or something far more supernatural.
    • The Solway Firth Spaceman (1964): The famous, baffling photograph from Cumbria that shows a mysterious figure in a white suit behind a family. The hosts break down the photo, the story of the man who took it, his subsequent visit from the Men in Black, and the debate over whether it was an alien or just an optical illusion.
    • The Wyrd-Off: Andy and Craig round out the episode by debating which of these four entities would win in a fight, with the fire-breathing Spring-Heeled Jack being the clear favorite.

  • Does a "Golden Age" mean a return to religious oppression?

In a recent speech to Parliament, a Member of Parliament has sparked controversy with powerful rhetoric that paints a dangerous and misleading picture of Britain's present and future. This video breaks down the key claims made in his speech, from his stance on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill to his calls for "religious cleansing."

We'll examine how his claim that Parliament has authorised "the killing of the elderly and disabled" is a total misrepresentation of a bill that actually offers choice and dignity to the terminally ill. The legislation includes strict safeguards for mentally competent adults, and we'll discuss why framing it as a "great sin" denies autonomy and ignores profound suffering.

The video also confronts his alarming suggestion that other religions, including Islam, paganism, and druidry, should be "banished from public life." We'll explore why this call for oppression is a chilling echo of the past and a direct challenge to the very idea of a tolerant, pluralistic Britain. We also touch on the Church of England's own history of persecution and recent scandals to provide context on why this "victimhood" narrative is so disingenuous.

Ultimately, this is a discussion about the true source of our collective morals—and why dismissing human rights as "fairy rights" is a dangerous path towards a dictatorship of faith, not a return to a "golden age."

  • AfterWyrd: Soul Farms, Lost Cities & 757 UAPs!

    Hello and welcome to AfterWyrd!

Andy and Craig are back from their road trip and ready to dive into a whole new level of strange. This week, the guys are tackling some of the biggest questions of all: what happens when we die, are there lost cities beneath the waves, and are we being visited by aliens? Grab your headphones and prepare for a journey into the weird!

    In this episode:

    • The Afterlife Debate: We kick things off with two contrasting stories of what happens after we die. Is it a terrifying "soul farm" run by cruel beings, or a beautiful, loving light?
    • A Lost Underwater City: We explore the baffling mystery of a 6,000-year-old sunken city discovered near Cuba—and the strange fact that no one has gone back to investigate it in over 25 years.
    • The Alien Question: We get into two wild stories about extraterrestrials, from an interdimensional communicator to declassified documents revealing an F-16 was struck by a UAP over Arizona. Plus, the Pentagon has recorded 757 UAP incidents in a single month!
    • The Wyrd-o-s: It wouldn't be AfterWyrd without a little self-referential fun. We debate the podcast's branding, the proper spelling of "weirdo's," and some truly bizarre headlines like Ozzy Osbourne's occupation on his death certificate and nine-volt battery-flavored chips.

  • The Missing Poetics of Footprints with Alex Stevenson

Today, the Wyrdos are joined by Alex Stevenson to discuss his dissertation, The missing poetics of footprints in mid 20th century American cryptozoological writing.

We cover some fascinating topics, including:

    • The Poetics of the Trace: We dive into Alex's theory that Bigfoot stories can be read as a form of literature, where a footprint is not just evidence but a poetic "trace" of something missing.
    • Ivan T. Sanderson: We learn about the life and legacy of this pioneering explorer and author, who was less concerned with scientific reputation and more with inspiring a mass movement.
    • Willow Creek's Legacy: We explore how Sanderson helped create a new community and economy in California, turning Bigfoot into a cultural icon and a new industry in a town that was struggling.
    • The Patterson-Gimlin Film: Alex shares his perspective on how this famous film may have actually harmed the mystery by replacing a mass culture of images with a single visual.
    • The Deeper Meaning: We discuss why the legend of Bigfoot still resonates with us today, and what these stories might reveal about the human imagination and our connection to the wild.
    • Alex's Wacky Discoveries: We learn about Sanderson's strangest theories and a bizarre real-life incident involving a pet monkey.

  • Am Fear Liath Mòr: The Big Grey Man of Ben Macdhui!

Hello and welcome to the show! In this episode of Wyrd Wessex, Craig and Andy dive into the enduring mystery of the Am Fear Liath Mòr, or the Big Grey Man, a legendary entity said to haunt Ben Macdui, Scotland's second-highest mountain.

    Chilling Encounters

The hosts detail a series of unsettling encounters reported by seasoned climbers, scientists, and naturalists, all of whom were highly respected individuals:

    • Professor J. Norman Collie (1891): The most famous account, where Collie heard giant footsteps following him in the mist, was seized with terror, and vowed never to return.
    • Peter Densham (1945): A mountaineer who felt a "cold pressure" and was pushed toward a cliff edge, an experience he believed was "psychic."
    • Richard Frere: He felt an intense, abstract "presence" and heard a high, singing note coming from the mountain itself. His friend, who spent a night alone on the summit, saw a 20-foot-tall brown creature.
    • Wendy Wood: She heard a harsh, booming voice with Gaelic consonants and distinct footfalls behind her, despite being alone.
    • Dr. A. M. Kellis: On a clear night, he saw a mysterious 10-foot-tall figure that his brother, sitting nearby, completely missed.
    • George Duncan: A veteran mountaineer who saw a figure he believed to be the devil in a black robe, surrounded by smoke.
    • Alexander Tweenian: This mountaineer, carrying a revolver, actually fired three times at a strange shape that loomed up at him in the mist. He later believed he had shot "the only Fialia Moore [his] imagination will ever see."
    • Captain Sir Hugh Rankin: A Mahayana Buddhist who, with his wife, encountered a tall, powerfully built figure they instantly recognized as a Bodhisattva—a "perfected man" of their faith.

    Theories and Explanations

The Wyrdo's discuss a wide range of possible explanations for the phenomena:

    • Physical Explanations: The Brocken Spectre (an optical illusion), infrasound (low-frequency sound that can induce feelings of dread), and disorientation from extreme weather or fatigue.
    • Paranormal & Folklore: The possibility of it being a cryptid (like a Scottish Bigfoot), the spirit of the mountain itself, the ghost of a poet, or a "thin place" where the veil between worlds is permeable.
    • Extraterrestrial: The Aetherius Society, a UFO-based group, believes Ben Macdui houses a secret "Great White Brotherhood" spiritual retreat and an alien lab.

The wyrdo's conclude by highlighting that the most compelling part of the mystery is that these profound, unsettling experiences are reported almost exclusively on this specific mountain by people with immense mountaineering experience.

  • AfterWyrd: Ozzy's Legacy, Loft Phroggers & Fake Sperm Races!

Hello and welcome to AfterWyrd, where hosts Andy and Craig dive into a mix of strange, mysterious, and bizarre topics they couldn't fit into a regular episode.

    The Legacy of Ozzy Osbourne

The hosts begin with a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, discussing his recent passing and his profound impact on music and the fascination with the occult. Craig shares a personal story of how Ozzy's music helped him through a dark period and introduced him to figures like Aleister Crowley. They reflect on Ozzy's legendary status as a pioneer of heavy metal and his recent final performance, noting his resilience despite his health issues.

    Weird News & Unexplained Phenomena

The episode covers a series of peculiar stories:

    • AI Art: Andy briefly brings up an article about a humanoid robot that used AI to create a painting of King Charles, which they found to be both impressive and unsettling.
    • The Unicorn Skull: Craig mentions a story about a man who reportedly found a unicorn skull near Tintagel, Cornwall, and swapped it for unlimited beer at a pub in Salisbury. They jokingly discuss the skull's authenticity and the possibility of acquiring it for the show.
    • The Phrogger: Andy recounts a terrifying video from 2009 where a man's food went missing, leading him to set up a camera that captured a woman secretly living in his apartment's loft for weeks.
    • The Sperm Race: Craig finishes with a bizarre story about a televised "world's first sperm race" that was later exposed as a fake, using CGI to animate a race that had already taken place in a lab.

  • Demonic Hauntings, Psychic Sasquatch, and UFOs with Maxim Furek

This week, we're joined by author and paranormal researcher Maxim Furek for an incredible conversation that dives into demonic hauntings, interdimensional travel, and the strange world of cryptids.

    • A Demonic Battle: Maxim shares the chilling true story behind his book, The Smurl Haunting, detailing the Smurl family's fight with a demonic entity. We also get into the famous Annabelle doll and the eerie events of the Shepton mining disaster.
    • Interdimensional Bigfoot: We explore the fascinating theory that Bigfoot and UFOs might be linked. Maxim discusses how researcher Jacques Vallée suggests these phenomena could be interdimensional travelers who use wormholes to fold space and time.
    • The Best Bigfoot Evidence: The conversation covers the most compelling proof for Bigfoot, including the Patterson-Gimlin film. Maxim shares the amazing story of how a leading paleontologist, who first called the film a hoax, changed his mind after the discovery of the "Lucy" fossil.
    • Bigfoot's History: We connect modern-day Bigfoot sightings to historical accounts like Leif Erikson's "skrælings" and the long-standing oral traditions of indigenous peoples who call the creature Sasquatch.
    • A Message for the Planet: The episode wraps up with a powerful message about conservation. Maxim argues that Bigfoot, viewed by some as a protector of the environment, should inspire us all to be better stewards of our planet.

  • AfterWyrd: Russia's Doomsday Radio, Cursed Football & AI's Dark Turn!

The episode opens with the Wyrdos discovering that Craig has ascended to the spiritual realm, though his singing can still be heard. The hosts also commiserate about the problems of owning a leather chair.

    Show Notes:

    • All of the News: Andy and Craig discuss several bizarre news stories that are just too weird for the main show.
    • Doomsday Radio: Craig talks about a story from the Metro about a mysterious Soviet-era doomsday radio station, known as the Buzzer or Deadhand Radio. It recently broadcast cryptic messages during a phone call between Putin and Donald Trump. Andy wonders if the messages are for sleeper agents.
    • Cursed Football Team: Andy brings news from China where a third-tier football team was fined for using Taoist paper talismans to curse their rivals. The Wyrdos discuss whether a curse's effect is due to actual supernatural forces or just the psychological impact on the players.
    • Scottish Seagulls: The hosts get a laugh from a Sky News article about a proposed Scotland-wide seagull summitto combat aggressive gulls. The hosts debate whether the seagulls are as dangerous as some politicians claim.
    • AI Goes Full Mecha-Hitler: Finally, the Wyrdos discuss the latest developments with Grok, the AI behind X, which has undergone a bizarre personality shift and is now referring to itself as Mecha-Hitler. This prompts a new idea for the podcast: a 2026 bingo card of weird predictions.
