GM Slides 7% After Beating Q2 Earnings Despite $1 Billion Tariff Hit, Warns of Steeper Impact Ahead
General Motors reported second-quarter earnings that surpassed analyst expectations, even as the automaker absorbed a $1.1 billion hit from tariffs – but it also warned about a coming steeper impact from tariffs moving into the second half of the year.In her letter to shareholders, CEO Mary Barra emphasized GM’s resilience, stating:To strengthen its domestic manufacturing base and reduce import exposure, GM announced $4 billion in new U.S. factory investments in June. The plan will expand capacity by 300,000 units across key high-margin models — pickups, SUVs, and crossovers — at plants in Michigan, Kansas, and Tennessee.“This will help us satisfy unmet customer demand, greatly reduce our tariff exposure, and capture upside opportunities as we launch new models,” Barra wrote.
Currently, GM imports about half the vehicles it sells in the U.S., primarily from Mexico and South Korea. In contrast, rival Ford produces about 80% of its U.S. vehicles domestically. Ford is expected to report second-quarter earnings next week.Meanwhile, Stellantis, which owns Jeep, said tariffs cost it €300 million in the first half of the year and warned that results in the second half of 2025 will be significantly affected. Shares in Stellantis and Ford both fell about 1% on Tuesday morning.https://twitter.com/ElectionWiz/status/1948028438495088828

Canada Accepts They’re Not Going to Get a Trade Deal Before 35% Tariffs Kick In
Trump is simply waiting for the USMCA timeline to trigger a renegotiation. President Donald Trump is ambivalent to the trade partnership with Canada. This moot-status reality is why there’s no substantive engagement.‘No deal’ -until USMCA redo- is a win for President Trump. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is set to expire on July 1, 2036, 16 years after its entry into force on July 1, 2020, unless all three countries agree to extend it for another 16-year term. A joint review is scheduled for July 1, 2026
in July 2026, during the scheduled joint review of the USMCA, the United States, Mexico, and Canada can discuss and potentially renegotiate aspects of the agreement. The review process allows the parties to assess the agreement’s performance and address any concerns. While the primary purpose of the 2026 review is to confirm whether all parties agree to extend the USMCA for another 16 years beyond its 2036 expiration, the discussions could lead to renegotiations or amendments if the parties mutually agree to make changes. Any renegotiation would require consensus among the three countries, and amendments would need to follow the formal process outlined in the agreement, including domestic approval
Canada is going to go into a deep economic recession; there’s no way to avoid it. However, if they restart their industrial base, drop the ridiculous ‘green’ energy stuff, start exploiting their own natural resources and train an apprentice generation -just like we are trying to do- then Canada can bounce backSource: theconservativetreehouse.com
Trump Considering Eliminating Capital Gains Tax On Houses
President Donald Trump has confirmed that he is considering abolishing the capital gains tax on houses.“We’re thinking about that,” Trump said on July 22 when asked if the administration is considering removing the tax to improve the U.S. housing market. The U.S. government imposes a capital gains tax on the sale of homes. Tax rates for long-term capital gains—residential properties held for more than a year—depend on income and range from zero percent to 20 percent. Capital gains on homes owned for less than a year are taxed at the same rate as your ordinary income. However, there are exemptions, with current law allowing homeowners selling their primary residence to exclude home sale profits of up to $250,000 for individual tax filers and up to $500,000 for joint filers. The first transcontinental railroad in the United States, connecting the eastern and western parts of the country, was completed between 1863 and 1869, taking approximately six years to build. This monumental project, primarily constructed by the Central Pacific Railroad (from the west) and the Union Pacific Railroad (from the east), spanned about 1,912 miles from Omaha, Nebraska, to Sacramento, California, with the two lines meeting at Promontory Summit, Utah, on May 10, 1869
the California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) project, as of July 2025, is planned to cover 494 miles (795 km) for Phase 1, connecting San Francisco to Los Angeles and Anaheim via the Central Valley. The Initial Operating Segment (IOS), currently under construction, spans 171 miles (275 km) from Merced to Bakersfield. The full system, including Phase 2 extensions to Sacramento and San Diego, is projected to reach about 800 miles (1,300 km).

were letting all of these unaccompanied minors into the country—and as we’ve talked about today, they weren’t keeping track of them—they issued these kids a hotline that they could call if they had trouble with the sponsor family they were placed with, and you’re saying that 65,000 calls to this hotline, designated to protect these kids, went unanswered. Is that what you’re telling this committee?” Her response: “Yes, sir.” Democrats are literally evil. How could they possibly win another election EVER again??
