Trump Effect: German Auto Giant Audi Looks to Move Production to U.S. to Avoid Tariffs
German luxury auto manufacturer Audi said it is considering moving car production to the United States to avoid tariffs from the Trump administration.
Volkswagen’s subsidiary Audi brand said this week that it is examining various long-term strategies, including potentially shifting production to America, to deal with President Donald Trump’s restrictions on foreign imports.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said that the company is “currently assessing various scenarios for additional localization in North America – among other things, to be closer to the needs of local customers and to make ourselves more resilient to global economic uncertainties.”Although no firm decision was made this week, the German auto giant said that it would be announcing later this year where it intends to produce its primary vehicle models for the American market.

Declassified JFK Files: Transcript Reveals Israeli Scientists and US Experts May Have Played Roles in Transfer of Nuclear Intelligence to Israel
The newly declassified JFK file revealed that former CIA counterintelligence chief James Angleton testified under oath in an executive session before the Church Committee in 1975 about deep intelligence ties between the United States and Israel.
The testimony, given in a top-secret executive session, was part of the Senate Select Committee’s broader investigation into intelligence operations.
Though much of the session was focused on Cold War espionage and Soviet defections, one line of questioning zeroed in on allegations that U.S. intelligence may have assisted Israel’s covert nuclear program.
Angleton, who served from the agency’s founding until late 1974, confirmed a formal, albeit unwritten, intelligence-sharing agreement between the CIA and Israeli operatives beginning in 1951, one reportedly brokered between Angleton and Reuven Shiloah, Israel’s first Mossad director, noting that the relationship operated on a fiduciary basis and avoided documentation.
the transcript revealed that Angleton was confronted with allegations raised by journalist Tad Szulc and author Seymour Hersh—who both suggested that key figures, including Israeli scientists and former U.S. nuclear experts, played roles in a clandestine pipeline of nuclear knowledge to Israel.
Hersh had even claimed that U.S. plutonium was transferred covertly for use in Israeli nuclear weapons development.
Angleton responded to these claims with caution. He acknowledged that if such transfers occurred, they were not within his knowledge or authorized under CIA operations.
However, he did express concern about the consequences of such allegations on U.S. credibility and Middle East diplomacy, especially if widely believed internationally.

Trump says he believes India will be lowering tariffs on US, Breitbart reports
U.S. President Donald Trump told Breitbart News in an interview on Wednesday that he believes India will probably be lowering the tariffs it imposes on American goods.

EU to delay retaliatory tariffs on US whiskey, other exports
The EU had been planning to levy two tranches of tariffs starting April 1 on a range of U.S. goods that includes agricultural products and clothing items but announced Thursday that the countermeasures will be taking effect beginning in mid-April.
Gill called the new effective date for the tariffs a “slight adjustment” that would not diminish their economic impact but would allow additional time for negotiations.

Furniture manufacturer shuts down Canadian operations, moves production to N.Carolina
Canadian ready-to-assemble furniture supplier Prepac has reportedly shut down its manufacturing operations in Delta, British Columbia, shifting all production to its facility in North Carolina instead.
According to Unifor, the union that represents Prepac’s workers, tariffs are to blame. More than 170 workers will be laid off.
Prepac has not confirmed that the closure and production shift were done as a response to tariffs or the trade war, nor as it returned a request for comment to Furniture Today.

Why doesn’t Powell say how fewer regulations and lower energy prices will lower inflation? Maybe I am way off base, and perhaps the Soviets/Cubans did play a role, but it seems like the CIA were trying to steer the conversation towards blaming the Soviets. My reasoning is that after JFK’s death, LBJ escalated Vietnam and gave the CIA their next war to launder money from. A war that JFK did not want, despite many in the intelligence community pushing for it. The CIA tried to drag the US directly into war in Cuba, JFK refused to do it, and then he averted nuclear war.

The Soviets did not express joy after JFK’s death, they expressed concern. Things only got worse for the Soviets geopolitically after JFK’s death, and the CIA only continued to get more powerful. Obviously there is no smoking gun that proves this definitively, it’s just an observation based on what I am seeing from the files, and a scenario I think is worthy of consideration.

Taxing carbon, he says, is the key to unlocking excellent trade agreements with other ‘global trade partners’ who can then fill the void created by disconnecting Canada from the USA economy.
No, really, he said that. Carney believes it with all his heart. These economic comments come on the heels of Mark Carney telling French President Emmanuel Macron –in public– that Canada was the most European of countries outside the EU. WATCH THIS (prompted):
Mark Carney’s plan. As stated in his tariff policy, the prime minister will take income from the Canadian side of the tariff equation (countervailing duties) to subsidize the impacted export sector. Just like China and the EU did in ’17, ’18 and ’19, the Canadian government plans to offset the difference to the U.S. consumer by subsidizing the exporter with import tariff income. All of this is done to retain access to USA consumers.
The final outcome, the U.S. purchaser is back to the original price of $70, only now that same outcome is evident with an invisible $50 tariff.
This is what China tried to do. This is what the EU tried to do. This is what Canada is now planning to do to retain access to the U.S. market while they look for alternatives.

How Tariffs Will Lower The Cost Of Living
Critics of President Trump’s trade policy – tariffs, tariffs, and more tariffs – cry that tariffs will cause inflation and make Americans poor. This is false.
Although there will be a brief period where the market adjusts to the new normal, tariffs will not cause inflation. In fact, tariffs will lower the cost of living in the long run.
Perhaps the more interesting question to ask is: inflation of what? Consumer goods? Why are these critics not concerned about the inflation of assets like houses or investments that are caused by economic globalism and the trade deficit? Why are the Democrats and Neocons so preoccupied with keeping the cost of disposable products low, when people cannot afford their rent or mortgages?
Fiddling with the grasshoppers
Contrary to popular belief, tariffs did not raise the cost of goods during President Trump’s first term, and they are not likely to do so the second time around.
There are a few reasons for this.
First, a tariff is a tax imposed on imports. For example, a 25% tariff on steel would increase the price of steel coming from Canada or South Korea. However, that same tariff would not apply to steel that was made in America. In this way, tariffs are a completely avoidable tax. If you do not want to pay tariffs, buy American. Simple.
Not only do tariffs create an incentive for consumers to buy American, but they also create an incentive for foreign producers to lower their costs. If countries like China or Mexico want access to America’s market—which they certainly will—then they will have to find a way to reduce their costs to balance out the tariff. Ultimately, lower production costs will benefit everyone.
The media laments that tariffs will increase the price of consumer goods. However, they appear blissfully unaware that the current trade paradigm—massive, chronic trade deficits driven by unfair and asymmetrical trade with the rest of the world—also causes inflation of a different kind.

Samsung halts investment, announces layoffs in Mexico due to tariffs uncertainty
Samsung has decided to stop any future investment in Mexico over economic doubts caused in part by President Trump’s proposed tariffs, according to Roberto Vega Solís, president of Mexico’s Business Confederation in Tijuana.
The South Korean firm has also announced plans to lay off up to 30 percent of its labor force in Mexico.
Vega Solís says President Trump has created “a very uncertain business environment by exposing Mexico to tariffs.”

CA down 16K fast food jobs amid $20 wage, debunking Newsom-cited study
Federal data now shows California fast food employment is down 16,000 jobs since the passage of the state’s $20-per-hour fast food minimum wage last year.
A fast food study from the Berkeley Research Group found California fast food prices increased 14.5% from September 2023 to October 2024, or double the national average.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ quarterly employment survey covers 95% of American jobs, and is considered the gold standard for jobs and wage data. Now its latest report shows California fast food jobs declined from 570,909 in September 2023 to 554,748 in September 2024.

President Trump said Thursday that Democrats would be to blame if government funding runs out this week and suggested a shutdown could delay GOP efforts to extend expiring tax cuts.
“They do a shutdown, and, ultimately, that might lead to very, very high taxes because we’re talking about a shutdown,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “We’re talking about getting to work immediately on the greatest tax bill ever passed. That was the one we did. It was a renewal, and it’s an addition to it.”

The Trump administration requested the Supreme Court allow a ban on President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens to be partially lifted.
In a court filing, Sarah M. Harris, the acting solicitor general, wrote that the Trump administration’s request was a “modest” one to “limit the pause to ‘parties actually within the courts’ power,’” according to the New York Times.
The court request from the Trump administration comes after “three federal courts, in Massachusetts, Maryland and Washington State, had issued directives temporarily pausing” Trump’s executive order, according to the outlet.

Briefing materials for President Barack Obama, subjects and times for White House Situation Room meetings and discussions about sensitive conversations with foreign leaders and even fallout from leaked National Security Agency intercepts were forwarded to Joe Biden’s private pseudonymous email accounts when he was vice president, according to a new tranche of documents turned over to Just the News by the National Archives.
Security experts and lawmakers, who reviewed the records, said they were disturbed by the nonchalant transmission of sensitive government information to Biden’s insecure private email accounts and believed it put national security at risk.
“The new set of emails from Joe Biden’s time as Vice President are very troubling and are more evidence that Biden believed he did not have to abide by classification and document handling regulations,” former CIA analyst and former Trump National Security Council chief of staff Fred Fleitz told Just the News.
It has not been able yet to determine if any of them were “classified,” in part because many documents were redacted or withheld in their entirety except for subject line. For instance, one fully withheld email from January 19, 2015, includes the subject “The President’s Briefing Materials.”

NY Fed: Worry over outlook increases amid stable inflation expectations
Americans grew more worried about the economic outlook in February even as their expectations of the future path of inflation were little changed, a report on Monday from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said.
According to the bank’s latest Survey of Consumer Expectations, inflation a year from now is seen at 3.1%, up a hair from January’s 3% reading, while the projected level of inflation three and five years from now was unchanged relative to January at 3%. The Fed wants inflation at 2%.
