Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio! This is Ypsilanti’s college football show and the official podcast of Ypsi11.com.
The Ypsilanti Eleven is back! And just in time for the 2023 season, too.
MAC Media Day is tomorrow, which means we’ll get to hear from coaches and players around the league at Detroit’s Fox Theatre. Not only will we get to hear from everybody, but we’ll also get to see some visuals with this fancy new camera at my disposal. That’s right: more photography will be coming to The Ypsilanti Eleven.
I’ve already published my season picks on the newsletter (read here), but the main topic for this episode is a MAC power ranking heading into the year.

The 2023 recruiting cycle is basically all done, and Eastern Michigan did something many never thought was possible: finish atop of the Mid-American Conference. With spring ball in mind and 2024 recruiting boards to build on, let’s sweep away the confetti and get organized on what Eastern Michigan needs to focus on for this year’s recruiting cycle.
Topics, agenda:
* EMU’s 27 new signees (5:57)
* With the Class of 2023 in mind, how can we build on a potential 2024 forecast? (13:21)
* Quarterback (13:49)
* Running back (17:47)
* Wide receiver (22:30)
* Tight end (25:44)
* Offensive line (29:50)
* Defensive line (33:15)
* Linebackers (39:59)
* Defensive backs (43:21)

Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio!
Sorry it’s been so long. I lied to myself saying I’d do two podcast episodes here per week during the season, and that’s a lie I had to drop very early on.
Now, expect things to happen once every two weeks on this feed.
After the best season this program’s had since 1987, I want to take this time to look back a little bit on the season that was, then spend a lot of time looking at the roster Eastern Michigan currently has with a week until the second signing period (and months from the second transfer window opening).
Speaking of new roster additions: Scott Ariganello makes his debut with The Ypsilanti Eleven. He’ll write about football for the site. More on that later.
Also, Justin Coffin of Hustle Belt and MAC Football Pod fame hopped on to help me grade the seasons that each MAC team had in 2022.
Topics, agenda:
* A re-introduction for the pod and introduction to Scott, a football writer and animal knower (0:00)
* SOME NEWS: USFL practices at Rynearson Stadium? (5:39)
* Link to read: The Detroit News’ report
* Looking back on EMU’s 2022 season (12:27)
* Grading MAC teams’ 2022 seasons (17:27)
* EMU roster readthrough (54:11)
* Link to read: 2023 Eastern Michigan Football Roster Tracker, Updates

Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio!
It’s Arizona State week (well, it’s gameday*; sorry for the delay!) and EMU’s got a tough, tough opponent ahead of them. Sure there’s a football team that EMU will have to play against, but how does this squad expect to beat the 100-degree heat?
Topics this episode include:
* Week 2 re-recap (2:02)
* Week 3 lookahead (5:29)
* EMU coach Chris Creighton’s comments on players’ irregular class week during EMU teachers’ union strike (7:53), and a light editorial on the state of the university.
* Read the EMU-AAUP statement here: https://www.facebook.com/100031784126978/posts/pfbid06bNPH7Kop4WSbzKxVeN1wFB6BeWwJkkrBnhVh5xjKVszYeFJAvFt24GjztaejqCkl/
* MACtion power rankings (17:27)
* Toledo coach Jason Candle’s quote on who Toledo natives should root for in this game (hint: his team) (19:18), and other unwinnable games Toledo’s playing this weekend.
* EMU at Arizona State (29:17)
* And three keys for the Eagles.
* Arizona State coach Herm Edwards on getting his team prepared for EMU (41:01)

Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio! This is Ypsilanti’s college football show and the official podcast of Ypsi11.com.
Game 2 final: Eastern Michigan fell to Louisiana 49-21 on the road Saturday night.
It wasn’t an ideal showing, even if EMU made improvements on how it started the ball game. The Eagles led the Cajuns 14-0 at the half, but the home squad gained some well-needed confidence and scored seven-straight touchdowns to gas EMU.
My 5 big takeaways from the loss:
* Confidence really, really matters in this sport.
* Teams gain confidence by scoring touchdowns.
* Teams lose confidence when opponents take advantage of certain situations.
* Hopefully, this was Taylor Powell’s worst game of the year.
* The defense still didn’t have the kind of day, pressure-wise, as it would’ve liked to have had.

Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio!
While this seems like an ideal time to break out the green and white shirts, the EMU AAUP teachers’ union voted to go on strike until everybody receives a fair contract that includes healthcare benefits. Until the strike is over, I’ll be wearing red instead of my school colors. It’s Week 2 which means EMU is headed south to square off against Louisiana, reigning champions of the Sun Bowl. For as great as Louisiana has been lately, there’s still a big chance for an upset by the Eagles. New head coach, new quarterback, who knows?
For this episode, let’s re-review some things from last week’s win over EKU, present my Week 1 MAC power rankings, and give a light breakdown of the Louisiana Cajuns football team.

Game 1 final: Eastern Michgian beats Eastern Kentucky, 42-34
After breaking down the game to see how it unfolded, I’ve got five takeaways to share with you:
* No real setback with Taylor Powell at quarterback.
* EMU benefited from better special teams play + bad EKU penalties.
* Justin Jefferson hurts, dude.
* EMU’s defense did a good job of game-planning for EKU.
* Samson Evans looked really reliable.

Eastern Michigan football begins this week (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) with a home date against Eastern Kentucky. Though EKU is an FCS program, EMU is still looking for its first-ever win over the Colonels.
In this episode, we’ll go through the first depth chart of the regular season and highlight this team’s four captains heading into the year: OL Brian Dooley, LB Chase Kline, QB Taylor Powell, and DE Jose Ramirez.
With quotes and sound bites from the team’s Monday morning press conference, we’ll hear from Dooley, Kline, and head coach Chris Creighton. Not only did Creighton field questions about his team and upcoming opponent, but he also shared another important bit of game-planning: Does he plan on growing out his beard again?

Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio!
We are 10 days (!!!!) away from the start of Eastern Michigan’s college football season. Of course, we’re all accustomed to watching most of our football from home, no matter how many road trips you plan to support your squad on the road. Since there’s no one-for-all answer for anybody to watch every MAC game from a singular service provider, we’re in need of a game plan of how to navigate your watch-from-home experience.
Also, there’s a harsh reality to come to grips with when you hear the phrase “nationally-televised game.” Too often, the MAC’s big, weeknight rivalries don’t reach 100,000 average viewers. That’s a problem.
EMU has two nationally-televised non-conference games on its schedule this year: at Louisiana on NFL Network, and at Arizona State on Pac-12 Network.

Eastern Michigan’s football team is halfway through its fall camp sessions, so it’s time for a report on its midpoint. In this episode, I’ve broken up 30 players among four groups: injured guys, seniors, new faces, and returning players with 3-4 years of eligibility remaining.
