On Freedom Friday with Perry and Shawna today, it’s the story of Yassir. It’s Yassir’s journey from a radicalized Islamic boy who hated Christians, to transformed follower of Jesus! Perry met Yassir in Thailand in 2017 and captured his breath-taking story. So first Yassir shares how he became radicalized as a young boy. Then he shares the event that would eventually lead him to Jesus—mercilessly beating a high school classmate (the only Christian in his school) and leaving him for dead. This classmate, Zechariah, didn’t die. He started praying for Yassir. Next Yassir shares how his favorite uncle, a violent persecutor of Christians became of follower of Jesus. This rocked Yassir’s world and caused him to rethink the person of Jesus. Then Yassir shares that his cousin became ill and fell into a coma. The family expected him to die. One afternoon as Yassir was sitting by his cousin’s hospital bed some Egyptian Christians asked if they could pray for his cousin. Yassir reluctantly agreed. And what happened after they prayed brought Yassir into the Kingdom. Next, 25 years after beating his classmate Zechariah, Yassir, now a follower of Jesus, met Zechariah face to face. He was so ashamed! But what Zechariah said to him revealed why Jesus had saved Yassir. And finally Yassir calls you and me to love our enemies as Zechariah had loved him.
