I cannot be more grateful for the portfolio reviewing event our lecturers organised at our university this year. It allowed me to meet artists like Bill Hope, whose work – I shamelessly will admit – I had not heard of before. Which, of course, fueled my awkwardness when I nervously asked him to be interviewed for my blog and podcast. After retrieving some courage, I had the most pleasant conversation about the importance of diversifying your work in art and how a specific background can branch out a plethora of opportunities.
Bill Hope is a commercial and children's book illustrator. After studying fine arts at university, he started working full-time as an illustrator. Nowadays, he presents himself as a ‘generalist’: from children's books to advertising and work commissioned by the government, Bill explains that his work is diverse.
