Luke gives special mention to the women among Jesus' ministry team here at the beginning of chapter 8. Passages like this one, among others, are crucial for understanding the affirmation of women in leadership and the role Jesus intended for women in his Kingdom. We use Luke's acknowledgment of their partnership here to address other passages that have been widely misused to limit and exclude the necessary contributions of women in ministry.
