Today's chapter is all about the power of remembering. In a culture obsessed with innovation and ingenuity, maybe what we need more than a new discovery is to return what we already know, to apply old truths in fresh ways, to remember the miracle of the cross. Together, we reflect on God's instructions to build a memorial marking the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River and the moments in our own lives when we've experienced the power of God.

Chapter three chronicles one of the greatest hits in Israel's ancient history, the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River. We explore what it means to be guided by God's presence, to believe in the impossible, and how this story might change how we approach our own obstacles. You'll notice in listening to today's message, there are intentional breaks for conversation...we encourage you to pause your listening when you get to them and reflect on these questions either on your own or with someone you trust:

1) “Why do you think doesn’t God overcome all obstacles for us as easily as he did here?”
2) "What impossible obstacle is between you and the abundant life described in Romans?"

Joshua was written down from the oral tradition during the Babylonian exile, at a time when the Jewish people needed to remember their national identity and have hope that the future was still ripe with possibility. Today's reading concerns Rahab and the Spies, a famous account that reminds us that God works through unlikely people and in unlikely ways to accomplish his work. It is an account that leaves a lot of questions, but like much of the history that we read and have today, it is informed by knowledge of what comes next, and is told by those that were shaped by it.

Kindred is guided by our four values: safe, sound, selfless, and sincere. In this message, Zack analogizes them to wedding vows to express how deeply we hold these promises to our community and that we won't always achieve them perfectly, but we will always be drawn back to them. Today we revisit the second half of our identity statement, We Belong to Each Other. Together, we explore the question, "Can there be an 'us' without a 'them'"? Belonging to each other is about more than fitting in or protecting sameness, but about the grace of Jesus revealing there is no 'them' and God has no favorites.

As we approach our sixth anniversary as a church, we lean into the vision, values, and tenets that got us here. Today we explore our tenet, "We Belong to God," in a new way, focusing on how life can work when we are secure in our belonging to our Creator, and how sideways things can get when we forget or don't believe it any longer. By looking at the concept of near and far enemies of belonging, we get a picture of what belonging to God can really mean.

We close our series on 2 Timothy by exploring the metaphor Paul masterfully uses in chapter four of a marathon race. He wants Timothy (and us) to take seriously the task of being people that struggle forward together and that carry each other's burdens. While spiritual junk food, division, politics, and comparison of sin all threaten to break our unity - Paul offers us a better way to run.

Paul had warned Timothy in the past about false teachers that are more concerned with gaining influence, wealth, and other ungodly things. Here, he again brings these charlatans to Timothy's attention, while reminding him that the fruit of his life and ministry will be what sets him apart. Like the popular social media trend of "Is It Real or Cake?", we also are faced with the choice daily: will we exhibit the fruit of the spirit or be like so many that choose the fake pursuits?
