For the third episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "yes" to doing CrossFit! And you know how DOING challenges go - it's all about the sweat of getting down and dirty with something new, and boy, was this sweaty and NEW!
But to get this challenge done properly, they needed to look for CrossFit "Boxes" near them and one such place that was happy to help was First Power Fitness, a world-class fitness facility & CrossFit gym, based in Nairobi. First Power offered the Yes Girls one month of full-access membership to learn the ropes.
The First Power facility that the girls used is based at Galleria Mall and caters to Karen, Langata and the surrounding neighbourhoods. It's over 900 square meters (10,000+ sq. feet) of space, dedicated to CrossFit, PowerFit, Olympic Weightlifting and Open Gym. Best of all, the First Power staff is made up of highly experienced and qualified coaches who hold a variety of certifications that make the facility the most diverse gym in the area.
So for this challenge, the girls had to attend intro classes as a CrossFit for beginners baptism and then thereafter attend a couple more classes within that one-month free membership to get a feel of the official CrossFit workouts and understand what this sport/workout is all about.
Their attempts were driven by the fact that they both came in not knowing too much about the sport. Possibly only that it's "tough and cool".
And so, they were excited to take on the challenge! CrossFit for beginners!
What was waiting for them as they went in was a large number of strange terms whether it was the exercise list, the official CrossFit workouts, or CrossFit equipment, and very interesting vocabulary.
On hand to guide the Yes Girls through the entire process were all the amazing First Power coaches: Lauren, Bryant, Collins, Boni, Chris, Will, Rutivi, and the in-studio guest expert for this episode, Tanya Alvis.
Tanya is a First Power coach, CrossFit athlete, badass superwoman, and now an honorary Yes Girl! She ends the episode by giving the girls ratings for their beginner efforts.
