  • Restorative Yoga Without Props | Full-Length Yoga Class for Back Pain | ChriskaYoga
    Restorative Yoga Without Props

Today we have special guest, Christina from the yoga YouTube channel, ChriskaYoga! She is sharing a 40 Minute Restorative Yoga Class without the use of yoga props. This is a full length class that begins with some gentle stretching leading you into some restorative style poses that are very meditative and passive.

In the style of restorative yoga, we often use props to make the poses more easeful and accessible allowing you to stay there for longer periods of time. However, this can sometimes be a bit restrictive due to a lack of access to props. So, for this class, you will be able to have a relaxing, tension reducing, and calming restorative yoga experience without the need for yoga props.

This class is great to reduce back pain and muscle tension in your back and upper body. It's perfect for when you travel if you are looking to unwind after a long and stressful day in transit. It's also just a great way to relax after a long and hard day at work.

This restorative yoga class is excellent for beginners or yogis of all levels. Anyone looking for a restoring yoga meditation to activate that relaxation response (the parasympathetic nervous system) in your body to recover from stressful situations.

    I hope you enjoy it!

    Restorative Yoga Full Class

We all do too much while taking too little time for physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual nourishment. Restorative yoga gives us time to restore our energy. In restorative yoga we are practicing supported, passive yoga poses. With the use of yoga props such as bolsters, blocks, blankets and walls your body is supported into a state of recovery. This is yoga for anxiety and stress relief.

When we take the time to restore our energy, our stress hormones, particularly, cortisol lowers and we will experience more energy, deeper sleep, healthier menstrual cycles, better moods, and easier menopause.

It is not uncommon for us to outspend the energy that we have. We are often holding down stressful jobs, maintaining relationships, caring for our families, trying to exercise and maintain a fulfilling life. We are constantly trying to meet the needs of our families, our bosses, our friends and our own high levels of expectations. We hear our bodies begging us to slow down but we do not know how to stop. We do not know how to stop running, pushing ourselves, and overreaching. So we keep going.

It is easy to blow through more of the energy that we gain from sleep, exercise, nutritious food and good company. We are constantly dipping into our energy reserves. The result is that we feel exhausted and even fragile.

It takes a lot of courage to stop running, stop pushing, stop overspending our energy reserves and stop trying to please everybody.

With restorative yoga we can begin to regroup and rebuild. We can learn how to expend our life force energy economically and efficiently. We can create balance in our life by nourishing our energy. When we take the time to slow down, we find we have a spaciousness and gain some energy back to enjoy our life more.

Restoring your energy, balancing those stress hormones and learning yoga is not something you can do in just one yoga video. Just like brushing your teeth, it is something you need to do everyday. The best way I have learned to restore my energy and balance my stress hormones is to make yoga a part of my everyday life. I am going to share with you a good, better and best way to do that now.

    Restorative Yoga for Beginners

Because we live in a fast-paced world where we are running all the time, we suffer from insomnia and do not get adequate rest are often completely exhausted physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically and spiritually. Restorative yoga gives us time to restore our energy. In restorative yoga we are practicing supported, passive yoga poses. With the use of yoga props such as bolsters, blocks, blankets and walls your body is supported into a state of recovery. This is yoga for anxiety and stress relief.

The supportive, passive poses of restorative yoga allow your body to access your parasympathetic nervous system or your rest and digest. In every restorative yoga class your spine will be moved in forward bends, sidebends, backbends and twists so that if you experience back pain you can rest assured knowing that your back will be cared for as well.

The support of the props allow you to let go into the poses. Restorative yoga is a time to completely take care of yourself and surrender into the yoga poses. When you come into supported yoga poses in a restorative yoga class you can let go into a level of healing for your body, mind, spirit, emotions, and energy that is available only when you are completely supported.

Let go of all effort in restorative yoga poses. In fact, the reason why we use the props is to bring the pose to you. Fill any space between you and the ground with added cushions or blankets.

If you benefited from today’s class we have over 30 beginner yoga classes that I will link to in our show notes:

  • Connection | Yoga for Emotional Balance | Celebrating 400 Episodes | Yoga with Dr. Melissa West 400
    Connection

While we think that earning more money is going to make us happier, science of neurobiology is showing again and again, that is our social connections that matter the most. In this intermediate hatha yoga class we will explore how connection is crucial to our emotional balance. We will begin this hatha yoga class by connecting with our body from the inside out.

We have mirror neurons in our brain that fire in response to another person’s neurons. There is a social part of our brain that will actually atrophy in isolation. Scientists Eisenberg and Lieberman have shown that when we are excluded in social situations center of the brain that lights up when we experience this social pain is the exact same center that lights up when we experience physical pain. We need connection to grow as human beings and isolation literally damages our neurobiology.

We think that more money is going to make us happy and so we work more and spend less time in real social interaction. Our social interactions are invaluable. Economists suggest that volunteering once a week is like taking a yearly income of $20K and raising it to $75K. If you have a friend that you see most days it is as if you earn $100K more a year. Seeing your neighbours on a regular basis is like earning $60K more a year. And yet, when our most important social ties are lost, for example if we experience a divorce, it is like losing 90K a year. If you think earning more money is what you need, think again.

What we need is what we have experienced here over the last 400 episodes of Yoga with Dr. Melissa West. The connections we have made with all of you we could not have survived without. Without connecting with all of you we could not have made filming and sharing these videos around the world something viable. It takes cooperation and collaboration. And it is so much more fun experience our lives together, to be able to create these classes for you and to learn and grow together.
