Publisher's Summary:
A general in the United States Army by the name of William Thornson once said, "There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion."
I've come to believe the general was wrong. I say that because no enemy in his right mind would remain the enemy of a Marine...if...he truly understood the Marines. Of course, the universe is filled with crazy people and in my occupation I got to meet more than my fair share of them.
One such group was a terrorist organization called the Donalites. Their name apparently derived from the Irish Donal meaning "world ruler". They held to the belief that all of Earth's problems had their roots in interactions with alien cultures. Their agenda was a very simple one. Earth for Earthers. I would discover that they would say anything, do anything, and hurt anybody...basically go to any length...to force their will on the rest of humanity. Unfortunately, as I learned with a race called the Ollies, it turns out bigotry is not a solely human failing.
My name is Commander Anthony Grant Stone and this is a piece of my story.
Members Reviews:
A little too technical
Enjoyable story and great characters. A little too detailed in the descriptions of the space gear and tech. Found myself getting lost frequently
Rich Miller did a great job with the multiple characters and accents
I received this book at no cost in return for an honest review
An enjoyable ride, well worth a listen.
A well done and unique take on a standard issue squad based military sci-fi, the world seems to have a history yet you can happily listen to this book with no prior knowledge of the others in the series.
Andrew Beery's writing is well done with good descriptions and the word choices clearly indicates the personalities of the speaker. The style of the main character telling us about their past and side comments he makes gives us greater insight into his mind both now and then.
The narration is top notch with each character haveing a unique voice and personality. The main character is done to perfection. I will happily listen to another book narrated by Rich Miller.
All in all an enjoyable ride with a likable cast of characters get then selves in and out of trouble dealing with what the universe throws at them. Well worth a listen
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
The A. G. Stone series is rolling on
Where does Stone Hard rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
That said, Beery's continuing saga of the Infinity Brigade is a pleasant flowing story of a man's coming of age in the military along the lines of Starship Troopers or Enders Game.
I've listened to many military science fiction stories and this holds it's own against the best.
This is the second in the series and a few minutes into it, I stopped listening and went back on line to purchase the first in the series. That turned out to be a good buy. I would not have wanted the start with the second book.
What did you like best about this story?
This is space opera at it's best.
What does Rich Miller bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
