More good stuff!
Very good continuation of the series, wanders around to an excellent finish. Had quite a few turns I wasn't expecting as well.
Again, the feel of someone former military comes through very very well, but it is not overwhelming either.
Story moves pretty well, some interesting in book politics, they aren't glossed over by also not full explained as well. Sounds like the real thing frankly at times. Lysander gets put in some pretty unpleasant situations as well, which again brings back the real thing for most Marines.
Highly recommend the series so far, and I'll be starting book 3 soonish.
Has potential
Book 1: Recruit and Book 2: Sergeant are the first two books written by Jonathan Brazee in his multi book series The United Federation Marine Corps. This military science fiction series is laid out in the same way the late Rick Shelley used in his six book Dirigent Mercenary Corps (DMC) series with each book centered the main characters view point and experiences at a specific rank level in the military.
As far as the plot line and the believability of the story goes, both of theses books rate rather high with both the authors and his advisorâs experiences ,both good and bad, showing in the writing.
The problem I, and any one else who wish to read these books, have in reading these stories is the extremely poor proof reading done before these books were printed. It is seldom that two pages of these books can be read without typos standing out requiring the reader to remove, change out, or insert missing words or phases. Also, though much less prevalent, there are still instances of characters and weapons rank, titles, and/or names changing from one part of the book to the next.
Yes, someone ran the text through a spell checker and misspelled words were not an issue. That however is the least of what a proof reader should catch. If I was required to guess I would say that all those proof reading these books were too close to the subject matter. They caught and corrected the errors in the actions and details presented but because that was what they focused on they automatically corrected in their heads and therefore skipped over the basic typos.
It really would have immensely improved the readability of these books if the author had worked out a deal with his local mid-school English class were the students would read the stories as homework and highlight all questionable parts. A page at the beginning of each book listing the class, the teachers name, and the names of all students should serve as payment.
Space Marines are getting common
I give this novel 3 stars because it is OK but not more. Mr Brazee is competing in one of the toughest genres, namely Military Science Fiction.
