Caillou 想卸下他自行車上的輔助輪，不過，他怎麼樣都學不會。直到他看到妹妹Rosie學習穿鞋，他才明白，原來除了不斷的嘗試之外，時間才是最重要的關鍵，等到他再大一點，等到他準備好的時候，自然就可以不需要再使用輔助輪騎自行車了！小朋友，你會騎自行車嗎？你可以不需要輔助輪嗎？在學習拿掉輔助輪騎車，是需要時間的，如果你一直都學不會也沒有關係，再給自己一點時間，等你準備好了，你會發現有一天，你可以很快就學會不使用輔助輪，因為你長大了！

It was a beautiful day, and everyone was outside.
“Hi, Caillou. Do you want to go for a bike ride?”
Sarah asked, riding up on her bicycle.
“Can I go, Daddy?” Caillou asked.
“Sure. I’ll come along, too,” Daddy said.

Caillou was trailing behind.
Daddy and Sarah were much faster.
Caillou was upset that his training wheels were slowing him down.
“Daddy, can I try riding without my extra wheels like Sarah?” Caillou asked.

“Are you sure you’re ready to take your training wheels off?”
“I want to try. Please, Daddy,” Caillou said.
“I rode my bike with training wheels for a long time, Caillou. I only took them off a little while ago,” Sarah said.
“I don’t need extra wheels,” Caillou said.

“All right, let’s give it a try. You’re going to have to practice and be patient. Switching to two wheels isn’t easy,” Daddy said.
“Can we go home and take them off right now?” Caillou asked.
“Sure, let’s go,” Daddy replied.

Back at home, Daddy removed the training wheels from Caillou’s bicycle.
“You can do it, Caillou,” Sarah cheered.
“Go, Caillou!” Mommy said.
“Yay!” Rosie cried.

“Whoa! Daddy, Don’t let go!” Caillou said. 
Caillou and Daddy went around and around the driveway.
Daddy was always holding on to the back of Caillou’s bicycle.

“Phew! Let’s rest a while,” Daddy said.
“I’m not tired, Daddy. Mommy, watch this!” Caillou called out and took off on his own.
Caillou wobbled and wobbled.
He just didn’t understand why he couldn’t keep his balance on two wheels.
“I think my bike is getting tired,” he said, taking a break.

Later, Mommy said: “Caillou, Rosie needs to change her shoes. Can you help her, please?” 
“No, I do it, Caillou,” Rosie said.
“That’s the wrong foot, Rosie. Let me help you,” Caillou said.

“Riding without training wheels is hard, isn’t it?” Daddy asked.
“Why can’t I do it?” Caillou cried.
“Maybe you’re just not ready yet,” Daddy suggested.
“Like Rosie with her shoes?” Caillou asked.
“Yes. Someday she’ll be able to put on her shoes by herself, and you’ll be riding that bike all over the neighborhood, you’ll see,” Daddy assured Caillou.

“Maybe I should keep the extra wheels on for a little while longer,” Caillou said.
“I think that’s a good idea, because you know what? There’s a right time for everything,” Daddy said.
“Hi, Caillou!” Sarah said.
“Want to go for a bike ride?”

“I can’t go as fast as you,” Caillou replied.
“That’s okay, this time I’m not on my bike. I’m just learning to rollerblade, so don’t go too fast!”
“Don’t worry, Sarah. I won’t!” Caillou said.

Boys and girls, do you like to ride a bike?
Are you riding a bike with training wheels?
It’s hard and takes a while learning.
You’ll learn how to ride a bike without training wheels when you are ready.

卡尤學游泳。卡尤有點害怕大水池，寧願待在淺水池裡。但爸爸教他游泳，最後他終於學會了，他好開心！小朋友，你會游泳嗎？誰教你游泳呢？第一次下水，你會害怕嗎？最後你學會游泳了，開不開心呢？跟爸爸媽媽說說你的感覺吧！

The family was spending the day at the pool.
Daddy was already in the water, waiting for Caillou.
“I’m right here, Caillou,” Daddy said, holding his arms open.

The water was deep and dark.
Caillou looked around nervously.
He could barely see the bottom of the pool.
Caillou stuck one foot in the water and shivered.
“Brr,” he said.
“Are you coming in, Caillou?” Daddy asked.

Caillou wasn’t sure.
“Look, Daddy, it’s shiny over there,” Caillou said, pointing to the other side of the pool.
When Daddy looked, Caillou ran away to the wading pool where Mommy and Rosie were sitting.
“Whee!” He said, and he jumped in.
Rosie laughed, and Mommy protected her face from the splashing water.

Daddy finished his swim and went over to the wading pool.
“Daddy!” Rosie said.
“Maybe next time you’ll come in the bog pool with me,” Daddy said, winking at Caillou.
“Okay,” Caillou said, awkwardly.

That night, Mommy tucked Caillou into bed and said, 
“Remember the big pool?” 
“Ye-e-es?” Caillou answered.
“It was pretty big, wasn’t it?” Mommy said.
“I guess so,” Caillou said.
“Would you like Daddy to teach you to swim?” Mommy asked.
“Oh, yes!” Caillou exclaimed.

A few days later, Caillou had his first swimming lesson.
He loved being in the water and learning to swim.
After just a few lessons, he was less afraid and he was getting better and better.
“Swim over to me, Caillou,” Daddy said.
“I can do it,” Caillou said.
“I know you can,” Daddy said, encouragingly.

Caillou was still walking a little on the bottom of the pool, but he was moving his arms the right way.
“I’m swimming, Daddy. I’m swimming,” Caillou said.
He was very excited.
Caillou wanted to swim and dive, just like the big boys and girls.

After a little break, Daddy asked, 
“Do you want to go back in the water?”
“Yes, I can swim now, Daddy,” Caillou said.
“Come in and watch me.”
He and Daddy got into the pool.
Caillou pushed off the bottom and put his arms out and kicked his way towards his daddy.
“That’s it. Hold your arms out, just like I showed you,” Daddy said.

Caillou walked on the bottom of the pool again, but very soon he was swimming all by himself.
“That’s it, Caillou,” Daddy said.
“I’m swimming, I’m swimming. See, Daddy?”
“Yes, I’m right here,” Daddy said.
“Go, Caillou, you can do it.”
“Look at me. I’m swimi-glub glub,” Caillou said, splashing wildly.

Suddenly, Caillou was afraid, but his daddy was not far away.
“It’s okay, Caillou. Come this way,” Daddy reassured him.
“Take it easy. Swim to me, just like you did before.”
Caillou calmed down when he heard his daddy’s voice and swam toward him.

“That was a bit scary, wasn’t it?” Daddy said, holding Caillou in his arms.
“But you knew I was there, didn’t you?”
“Yes, Daddy,” Caillou said.
“You know what?” Daddy exclaimed.
“You were really swimming all by yourself.”
“I was, wasn’t it?” Caillou said.
“I’m very proud of you. I knew you could do it!”

Caillou was at the park with Rosie and Grandma.
He saw a little girl playing all by herself.
“I’m going to ask the girl if she wants to play with me,” he told Grandma.
“What a good idea!” replied Grandma.
“Maybe you will make a new friend today.”

“Hello!” said Caillou.
The girl didn’t answer, so he spoke a little louder.
“My name is Caillou,” he said.
“Do you want to play with me?”
The girl just sat there.
Caillou was confused.
Did she hear him? Was she shy? Should he leave her alone?
Caillou didn’t know what to do.

Some children were playing tag nearby.
They were laughing and shouting.
It looked like fun.
Caillou wondered if the girl would like to join them, but she seemed very unhappy.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, but she didn’t answer.
Instead, she got up and ran away.

The girl hid under a picnic table.
Caillou wondered if she needed help.
Then a man walked up.
“Hello,” he said.
“That’s Sophie, and I’m her dad.” 
“Is she all right?” asked Caillou.
“Yes. She just needs to calm down. This will help.”
He handed Sophie a little toy.
“Let’s give her a little space,” he said to Caillou.

“Why is she upset?” asked Caillou.
“Sophie doesn’t like loud noises,” explained her dad.
“She has autism, so she sometimes asks a little different than other kids. She doesn’t talk very much.”
“She didn’t talk to me,” said Caillou.
“She’s like that with everyone, even me. And when something bothers her, she likes to sit somewhere quiet and dark.”

Soon Sophie came out and went back to the fountain.
Caillou wanted to join her.
“Can I sit with Sophie?” he asked her dad.
“I promise I won’t be noisy.”
“Yes, she would like that very much,” said Sophie’s dad.
“Even if she doesn’t say so.”

Caillou sat beside Sophie. She was looking at the fountain so he decided to look at it too.
“Wow!” he whispered.
The drops of water sparkled like jewels in the sunlight.
Now Caillou understood why Sophie liked to watch the water falling.
It was beautiful.
Sophie put her hand into the water, so Caillou did too.
The water was nice and cool.
Then Sophie laughed.
“What’s so funny?” asked Caillou. 
Then he noticed the waves made his hand look wobbly and funny.
He started to laugh too.”
“Hand!” said Sophie, giggling.
“Hand!” said Caillou.
Then the loud children ran past them again.
Caillou saw Sophie frown.
He knew she didn’t like the noise they were making.
“Shhh!” he said to kids, but they didn’t hear him.
Caillou didn’t want Sophie to be upset.
He wondered what he could do to make her feel better.
Then Caillou remembered something that would help.
He picked up Sophie’s little toy and gave it to her.
“Here, Sophie,” he said.
She held it to her cheek and took a deep breath.
Then she smiled.
Caillou could see that she was feeling better.
He was glad he could help.

Soon it was time to go home.
“Who is your new friend?” asked Grandma.
“That’s Sophie,” said Caillou.
“She has autism.
She doesn’t say very much, but she notices lots of things.”
Caillou waved goodbye to Sophie.
She didn’t wave back, but she smiled at him.
That made Caillou very happy.

Sophie has autism, but it doesn’t prevent her from having fun like any other little boy or girl.

“I’ll show you another dance,” says Grandma.
“Take my hands. Move your feet.”
“You are the best dancer. Here is your ribbon!”
Caillou dances with Grandpa.
Grandpa can dance well, too.

Mommy and Rosie come to Grandma’s house.
“I am the best dancer,” Caillou says. 
“Here is my ribbon.”

“Grandma and Grandpa were good dancers, too. Look at this photo!”
“And look at this!” Grandpa says.
He takes Grandma’s hands. 
They move their feet.
Mommy cheers, “You are good dancers!”

Hold your daddy and mommy’s hands, let’s dance!

Rosie calls. Time for lunch.
Caillou goes to the house.
Everyone is having lunch.
“Can George eat, too? Caillou asks.
Mommy smiles. “Okay.”
Caillou finds George a chair.

Caillou talks about George.
“George can run fast. But I can run faster.”
“Where does George live?” Gradma asks.
“In our house,” says Caillou.

Caillou tells more.
“George is my best friend. He is very special and …”
“Caillou, your lunch is getting cold,” Mommy says.
“Can George wait outside, please?”

Caillou pulls on George’s chair.
“Please wait outside, George.”
Mommy thanks George.

After lunch, Caillou plays outside again.
Then Daddy calls Caillou.
Uh-oh, Daddy is by the barrel.
He is not happy.

Daddy points to Mommy’s flowers.
“Who did that?” he asks.

“Um… George did it.”
“George?” Daddy asks.
“Your special friend?”
“Yes. He didn’t mean to.”

“Really?” Daddy asks.
“No,” says Caillou.
“I knocked the flower off.”

Caillou looks down.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
“That’s okay,” Daddy says.
“Now, let’s clean up!”

“Okay,” Caillou says. 
“And George wants to help, too.”
“He does?” Daddy laughs.
“Yes,” says Caillou.
“George really is a special friend!”
