We continue our meaningful and holiday YJHTL stories with the very funny John Pinney.

Andy is a manager of Public Affairs at Bott Radio Network & Assistant Conductor - Overland Park Civic Band. Mr. Yates holds a B.A. in music from Mid America Nazarene University. He has studied percussion and conducting at the UMKC Conservatory of Music. Mr. Yates has performed as a percussionist throughout the U.S. He has written music arrangements for Marilyn Maye, The Kansas City Symphony and famed trumpeter “Doc” Severinsen. Mr. Yates has been active in Kansas City radio since 1987.  He is currently the manager of public affairs for Bott Radio Network and anchor/reporter for KMBZ Kansas City.

All of his life Danan Hughes played multiple sports – football, basketball and baseball.  It was in his second year in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system and just a year removed from being a third-round draft pick. Weeks earlier in 1993, the Kansas City Chiefs had made him their seventh-round draft pick.

Hughes pursued pro football, rising from practice squad member to team captain of the Kansas City Chiefs over a six-year career in the National Football League. And it’s why the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame proudly inducted Hughes with the Class of 2022.

As a Kansas City Chie,f Danan played from 1993 to 1998 as a wide receiver and punt returner, and was voted a team captain in his second through fifth seasons. Overall, he played in 85 games in an era when the Chiefs were a combined 62-27 and won three AFC West Division championships. Although Hughes contributed solidly as a wide receiver, his strong special teams play is what set the foundation for his career.

Since retiring, he has gone into broadcasting. He has been a part of the Big Ten Network’s & ESPN’s baseball and football coverage since 2008. He also has been a mainstay on the Chiefs’ local pregame and postgame shows since 2014. In 2020, he was promoted to an in-game analyst for the Chiefs Radio Network.

In 1967, Greg Pryor was an undrafted high school baseball player. His dad bribed the head coach of Florida Southern College (FSC) in Lakeland, FL to give him a small scholarship. He made the NCAA Division II All-America honors in 1970 and 1971 and signed a pro contract with the Washington Senators. He played in MLB during 10 seasons and was a member of the 1985 World Champion Kansas City Royals.

His book, The Day the Yankees Made Me Shave, includes 27 Days in Greg’s amateur and professional career. Included are personal recollections of wearing #42 for the New York Yankees, playing in the famous Pine Tar Game in Yankee Stadium, playing shortstop in the Disco Demolition game in Comiskey Park, playing in the ‘85 World Series, being called a dumbass by George Steinbrenner, loaning George Brett his bat when George stroked his 2,000th hit, hitting 3 walk-off home runs, playing with Bo Jackson, and many other notable events. We want baseball fans worldwide to enjoy these anecdotal stories, since many of the stories in the book relate to various teams, Hall of Fame players and managers, and widely recognized baseball events.

Ravaged by the painful side effects of DES (Diethylstilbestrol) - an experimental drug intended to save her life - her body is held together by bolts, screws, titanium plates, and 25-pound mono-filament fishing line.
