The days have been long, hot, and dry with bursts of damaging storms across most of these parts. I saw where the National Weather Service in North Platte, NE had posted that they have recorded a record number of days over 100 degrees this summer and let’s face it, we are still facing a whole lot more summer.

I can smell the funnel cakes and walking tacos. I can hear the giggles of little ones enjoying the carnival rides. But, most of all, I can feel the pride in the 4-H and FFA exhibitors that have worked so hard on their projects they are exhibiting. The county fair is their super bowl in that sand arena!

This week like almost every other week we have a host of difficult challenges facing us. Countries all over the world are experiencing an explosion in food costs. There is hunger and even famine in some regions. With Russia blocking Ukrainian wheat, we face more suffering. In some cases, Russian troops set fire to the ready to harvest wheat fields – burned them to the ground.

My husband and I have often said for the last 15 years, ranching wouldn’t be near as much fun, if it wasn’t for having our kids alongside us every day. The laughs, the lessons, the conversations make each day a new adventure, not only as we see it through their eyes, but live it right alongside them.
