Very personal question … did you have a shower or bath today?

Hopefully you’ve answered ‘yes’ … or at least have washed recently ;)

But why do you do it regularly & not just once in a blue moon?

To keep clean, fresh & to avoid people holding their noses when around you.

So when’s the last time you gave the same time & attention to your MOTIVATION?

Because let’s be real …. motivation levels can go up. 

They can go down. 

They can also feel like they’re somersaulting all over the place & going around a loop-da-loop, when riding the rollercoaster of business.

Want the good news? You can control your motivation levels!

At one point back in the ‘olden days’, you used to live without a mobile phone.   Yes … really!

It’s scary to think how we survived without one. Did we seriously need to rely on an ‘earth phone’ or a payphone. (Part of me wishes we could back to those days in a way .... oh to be disconnected & distraction-free).

I’m sure you’ll remember that exciting feeling when you unboxed your first ever mobile phone & thought … ‘WOW what a fantastic piece of technology!’. Mine was the cool & slick Nokia ‘banana’ phone.

Is that the same phone you’re using today? (I’d bet you a Starbucks latte that it’s not!)

And when you think about it now, does that phone seem like a ‘brick’ or ancient relic, compared to the one you’re carrying around with you today?

Probably! 

I’ve honestly lost count of how many different mobile phones I’ve had. Each time it's been an upgrade & better than the last.

So what’s this got to do with you & your business?

Everything!

I like big books & I cannot lie.

Yep I would even go as far as saying that I’m verging on being a ‘book-a-holic’.

What about you?

Do you love the smell when you walk into a bookshop & dream of being locked in there overnight?

Do you get that thrill of excitement like you’re going to pee your pants, when you click the ‘buy now’ button for the latest book to magically wing its way to your e-device? (Ok if you answered yes to that … you need serious help … because that’s a bit too much & even I don’t get that thrilled by books ;) )

But seriously, whether it’s real books, e-books, podcasts, videos or online courses, I know how addictive learning can become.

So is it a good thing or bad thing?

‘The MRI scan shows you’ve got a devastating injury’, said the knee surgeon in a very matter of fact way.

He went on & on for about 10 minutes with words such as, ‘major trauma in your knee’ … ‘it’s worse than we expected’.

I honestly was waiting for him to say, ‘Osmaan … you won’t be able to walk on that leg again’.

Thankfully he didn’t.

All of this happened completely out of the blue & as a result of taking my eldest son trampolining … yes seriously! (I kinda wish it was as a result of something more ‘interesting’, like snowboarding down the Alps or jet skiing in the Caribbean).

But let’s just say that the last 3 weeks of my life have been not the most fun & in all honesty the most challenging times that I’ve personally experienced.

It’s truly been a roller-coaster ride filled with ups & down in term of pain, mindsets & emotions.

The good news is that I’m getting back on my feet & managing to hobble around the place with my crutches.

So on this week’s podcast episode, I wanted to share my experiences & learnings from this journey with you, along with 7 key things to help you bounce back when the unexpected happens.

I still remember it as if it was yesterday, when I woke up in a tent in the middle of nowhere & I really needed to pee.

The only problem was that it was 12.33am & it was blowing a gale outside the tent.

Honestly, the thought of venturing out of my warm sleeping bag to face that really didn’t appeal to me …. especially as I truly hated being cold or wet!

I tried to ignore it, as I’d be getting up in a few hours anyway … surely I could use the power of my mind to wait?

But you know what happens when you try not to think of something … yep …. that’s all you end up think about right!

Finally I decided that it was going to be a long night ahead with zero chance of sleep, if I didn’t get up & go take care of business outside. So I did.

The most surprising thing happened though, when I finally got on my muddy hiking boots; zipped open the tent & got outside.

It's been a year and yet that whole experience continues to give me epic insights that relate directly to growing your business.

I truly had to get out my way in lots of ways, so I wanted to share the journey with you during this week's podcast.

Some of the key insights include:

Last weekend we took the boys to see Incredibles 2 & as I waited in the ice cream queue, I decided to do some eavesdropping.

‘Can I have a scoop of cookie dough & chocolate fudge brownie please’;

‘I’ll have chunky monkey & strawberry cheesecake please.’ (bizarre combo if you ask me);

‘2 scoops of mint-choc chip please’.

Guess what …. not one single person in front of me ordered vanilla!

I must have looked a bit bizarre to my fellow cinema-goers because I started to chuckle out loud.
