  • Episode #170: Coaching Topic: Limiting Beliefs

When a deeply held belief limits our choices, or our capacity for change or growth, coaching can be a wonderful space to explore and challenge it.

In this episode we talk about how to spot limiting beliefs and which tools we have in our transformational coaching toolkit to explore and unpick them in order to help our coachee find new ways to be.

  • Episode #169: Polyvagal Theory

In this episode we are dissecting a concept that has quietly infiltrated the coaching space: Polyvagal Theory. Marketed as the ultimate framework to map our emotional reactions and "hack" the autonomic nervous system, understand stress, and work with trauma, it is often quoted as fact.

Listen in as we explore what the compelling vocabulary like "ventral vagal states" means, and whether the scientific evidence backs up the theoretical claims?

  • Episode #168: Every Coach Needs a Coach - or do they?

'Every coach needs a coach' is one of those statements that does the rounds from time to time. It is frequently seen on social media feeds and is more often than not asserted as an absolute truth.

Obviously, coaches who coach coaches have a vested interest in spreading this view and so we thought we would explore the notion, give the topic a good airing and share our thoughts on the podcast.

Have a listen to the conversation and decide for yourself whether this is something that, as a coach, you should take to heart. If you'd like to contribute to the conversation, do drop us a message.

  • Episode #167: Working with Drivers

We have explored the theory of Transactional Analysis (TA) in a previous episode, and have also spent time on other episodes discussing the Drama Triangle and the Parent, Adult, Child models that stem from TA.

In this episode we dive a little deeper into another theory that stems from the world of TA, the theory of Drivers. You will already be familiar with a couple of the psychological drivers that we will be discussing. We have previously recorded episodes on People Pleasing and Perfectionism, which both sit within this theory.

We're going to round things off in this episode, taking a look at all five drivers, providing an explanation of what they are, where they come from and how they might show up in the coaching room.

  • Episode #166: And now for something completely different!

This week, we've taken the opportunity to share a podcast that was recorded 3 years ago, when our own podcast was still a gangly youth.

Tom was invited on to the marvellous Rachel Morris's 'You Are Not a Frog Podcast' and had a conversation with Rachel about the different coaching approaches that exist.

In this hour-long episode Tom and Rachel explore the benefits of coaching and how wonderful it is to be truly listened to. They also take a look at how different approaches might be useful in working with different topics and with different clients.

Tom provides a whistle stop tour of the coaching approaches that we teach on our Doctors' Transformational Coaching Diploma and even engages in a couple of brief coaching demonstrations to help generate some new thinking for Rachel.

Settle in for a good listen!

  • Episode #165: The difference between coaching and executive coaching

What sort of coach are you?

Whether it's your marketing, how you describe yourself on your website, or applying for personal accreditation, we thought it might be useful to understand the term 'Executive Coaching'.

In this episode we explore executive coaching from a couple of perspectives, what it entails and why you might want to engage with it as a title.

  • Episode #162: ADHD

We began our exploration of Neurodiversity in Coaching in episode 146, with a bit of an introduction to the topic and the terminology around both neurodiversity and neurodivergence.

Today we want to venture a little deeper into one particular neurodivergence - ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder to give it its full title. ADHD is a phenomenon that is receiving increasing attention within the coaching world and it is very likely that you will come across coachees that identify as living with ADHD.

In this episode we take a look at some of the nuances of ADHD and Tom shares his own personal journey to gaining a better understanding of the topic and trying to sort out the facts from the theories.

  • Episode #161: Deeper Coaching Presence

We have discussed both presence and absence in the coaching room in previous episodes, and today we want to venture a little deeper around the concept of presence in coaching.

We all know when we have experienced someone who is fully present for us; someone who has listened and allowed us to feel heard and understood.

    Presence makes a difference.

We will all have also experienced times when our coach has been a little distracted or not fully engaged. Coaching presence is such a powerful phenomenon and at the same time, something quite intangible, so we thought we'd try and define it for our listeners.

Join us for this episode as we explore what coaching presence is, why it's important, and some ways in which you can cultivate a more powerful presence in your coaching sessions.

    Resources:

    Questions asked in this podcast:

What prevents you from being fully present?

What pulls you out of presence?

How/What do you notice when your presence has slipped?

    Journaling Prompts:

What pulls you out of presence?

How is your Coaching Presence now?

    What supports and nourishes it?

How do you want your presence to be?

How do you know when you've slipped out of presence?

What's the gap you are bridging?

What gets in your way of being present?

How do you want to be with yourself as you practice becoming more present?
