  • S1E10: Loved for Who I Pretend to Be 💔

What if the version of you that everyone loves isn't the version of you that you actually love?

This week at happy hour, we're talking about the authentic version of ourselves versus the accepted version—the person we are when nobody's watching versus the person we've learned to be so we can fit in, avoid rejection, and feel loved.

Growing up gay in a Christian environment, I got really good at editing myself. I learned how to be the good kid, how to make people laugh, and how to become a version of myself that other people would accept. But somewhere along the way, I had to ask myself: Who am I when I'm not performing for everyone else?

In this episode, I'm sharing how childhood experiences can become lifelong survival skills, including the moment a childhood bully helped teach me that being funny was a way to earn acceptance. We'll get into people-pleasing, overachieving, the pressure to be palatable, and what happens when you're so busy being everything to everyone that you lose track of what actually makes you happy.

But here's the thing: your accepted self isn't the enemy. That version of you helped you navigate the world with the tools you had at the time. You can be grateful for who you had to become while giving yourself permission to grow into someone new.

We'll also do a little authenticity audit: What parts of your life feel like a performance? What are you afraid would happen if you stopped? And what's one small thing you can do this week that feels more like you?

You don't have to reinvent yourself overnight. You don't have to become louder, cooler, or more interesting. You just deserve to build a life that feels like it belongs to you.

So grab your drink, pull up a seat, and let's figure out who you are when you finally put down the props.

Because being accepted feels good. But you shouldn't have to lose yourself to earn it.

  • TOO CONFRONTATIONAL//TOO AGREEABLE

Are you the person who says exactly what everyone is thinking, or the person who would rather agree than make things awkward? 👀

This week on Your Gay Brother, we’re getting into the complicated world of confrontation, people-pleasing, and the different ways we learn to communicate. Why are some people always ready for an argument, while others would rather nod, smile, and keep the peace—even when they don’t agree?

I’m spilling the tea about my parents, who represent two very different sides of the conversation: a confrontational mom and an agreeable dad. Growing up between those two personalities has made me question my own habits, especially how being agreeable can sometimes mean putting everyone else’s comfort before your own.

    We’re talking about:

    * Why some people love confrontation while others avoid it at all costs

    * How your upbringing shapes the way you communicate and build relationships

    * The difference between keeping the peace and losing yourself

    * People-pleasing, having an opinion, and learning when to speak up

    * Why confrontation doesn’t always have to be a bad thing

    * How curiosity and communication can help us understand people who see the world differently

Plus, the Tea of the Week involves fettuccine Alfredo, a turbulent flight, holding a stranger’s hand, and somehow learning about her divorce. Because apparently, you never know what can happen when you take your headphones off. 😂

Whether you’re the outspoken one, the peacekeeper, or somewhere in between, pull up a seat, grab your drink, and let’s figure out how to navigate the people in our lives without losing ourselves in the process.

The question is: Are you genuinely agreeable, or are you just afraid of what happens when you disagree?

  • S1E8: Your Gay Panic About Turning 30 🎂

At what point do you start worrying that your best years are behind you?

Maybe it’s watching your friends get married and have kids. Maybe it’s realizing your body doesn’t bounce back like it used to. Or maybe it’s the terrifying thought that you were supposed to accomplish more by now — and you’re running out of time.

In this episode of Your Gay Brother, Garrett dives into the very real panic of turning 30, the pressure to make your 20s the best years of your life, and the strange experience of realizing you’re becoming a different person.

We talk about the fear of aging, “gay death,” mourning your younger self, and why staying constantly busy can sometimes be a way to avoid the bigger questions about who you are and where your life is going.

Garrett shares a story about a stranger who unintentionally made him question his entire future, reflects on how his social life has changed over the years, and explains why he refuses to believe he’s already peaked.

Because here’s the thing: you don’t have to peak in your 20s. You can keep becoming someone new for the rest of your life.

Getting older can be scary. Change can be uncomfortable. And it’s okay to miss the person you used to be while still being excited about the person you’re becoming.

So grab your espresso martini, pull up a seat, and let’s talk about growing up without convincing ourselves that the best is already over. 🥂

For the gays, the girlies, the straights, and anyone who’s ever panicked about getting older.

  • S1E7: YOUR GAY DISDAIN FOR THE BODY YOU HAVE

Have you ever looked at your body and immediately started making a list of everything you wish you could change?

In this episode, Garrett gets honest about body image, insecurity, comparison, and the pressure to look a certain way — especially in gay spaces where it can feel like everyone is competing to be the hottest person in the room.

From gay bars and gym culture to pretty privilege, cosmetic procedures, and the strange experience of being attracted to the same physical traits you wish you had yourself, we’re getting into the messy relationship so many of us have with our bodies.

Garrett also opens up about a comment someone made to him in middle school that stayed with him for years, and the unexpected realization he had while running a marathon: his body had been there for him every step of the way, even when he was busy hating it.

Maybe the goal isn’t to love every part of your body every single day.

Maybe it’s simply to start being grateful for the body that got you here.

So grab your espresso martini, pull up a seat, and let’s talk about the body we have — not the body we think we’re supposed to have. 🥂

For the gays, the girlies, the straights, and anyone who’s ever felt like they weren’t attractive enough.

  • S1E6: YOUR PARENTS ARE DISAPPOINTED IN YOU

Maybe you didn’t become the person they expected. Maybe you grew up, changed, questioned everything, and built a life that looks nothing like the one they imagined for you.

In this episode, we’re talking about parents, expectations, being the black sheep, and what happens when you stop giving your parents so much power over how you see yourself.

I get personal about growing up as a very good Christian boy, becoming the person I am today, navigating my relationship with my parents as an adult, and why I think we need to start seeing our parents less as the all-knowing adults and more as people we can actually get to know.

Plus: a chaotic Hinge date, Fortnite rage, and an Austrian who apparently needed 20 minutes to find the restaurant. 😂

Your challenge this week? Have the conversation you’ve been avoiding. 🫶

You don’t have to change who you are for your parents. But maybe you can invite them to understand you a little better.

🎧 Welcome to another happy hour with your gay brother.

  • S1E5: YOUR GAY INABILITY TO READ THE RELATIONSHIP

I am not a fucking mind reader. And neither are you.

So why do we expect the people we date to magically know what we’re thinking?

This week on Your Gay Brother, we’re talking about communication, dating, relationships, jealousy, overthinking, and that horrible little voice in your head that starts writing an entire story when someone doesn’t communicate with you.

Garrett gets honest about his own tendency to overthink relationships—and admits that despite his confidence in his ability to “read people,” he might actually have no fucking clue what the person he’s dating is thinking.

And then there’s the Tea of the Week: an Italian daddy, a couple making out on a plane, a teacher being flirted with by a student’s dad, and Garrett accidentally listening to their relationship drama at 30,000 feet.

    Honestly? Cinema.

The real conversation, though, is simple:

Nobody is a mind reader. If you don’t know what’s going on, ask. If something is bothering you, say it. If there’s dead space in your relationship, communicate.

Grab a drink and come hang out with your gay brother.

  • S1E4: YOUR GAY MISGIVINGS THAT YOU ARE BEHIND IN LIFE

Your friends are getting married. Buying houses. Having kids. Getting promotions. Making money. And somehow you feel like you’re standing still while everyone else is moving forward.

This week on Your Gay Brother, we’re sitting down with that feeling.

Garrett gets painfully honest about his own winding, confusing, very-not-linear life—and the realization that maybe there was never a finish line in the first place.

Because what if you’re not behind?

What if you’re just comparing your life to a timeline you made up?

Plus: a shirtless Joker on a skateboard, the morality of blessing strangers when they sneeze, a deeply questionable nose-picking confession, and a reminder that you’ve probably accomplished way more than you give yourself credit for.

Grab a drink. Pull up a chair. Let’s talk about it.

  • S1E3: YOUR GAY JEALOUSLY TOWARDS YOUR BEST FRIEND'S BEST FRIEND

Your best friend has a best friend… and you're not them. So naturally, you're spiraling. 😌

In this episode of Your Gay Brother, Garrett gets brutally honest about friendship jealousy, feeling left out, wanting to be someone's favorite person, and learning how to create your own sense of belonging.

We talk about the weird jealousy that can come up when your best friend starts talking about their other best friend, the pressure we put on friendships in our 20s, making friends as an adult, and the hard realization that sometimes we're trying to fill an internal void with other people.

And, because no episode of Your Gay Brother can stay emotionally healthy for too long, we also discuss dating outside of dating apps, a woman looking for love on the Neighborhood app, Garrett's latest dating confession, a truly cursed creamed-corn makeout, and some very important questions about Seven Dwarves Restaurant Fountain and Titsworth Park.

Most importantly: you are enough. Your friend's other friendships don't make you any less important.

So grab a coffee, get comfortable, and come hang out with your gay brother. 💗
